My parents first moved to Laurel Gardens 10 years ago in 2014. The care given to my mam before she passed away was first class. The carers looked after her as well as we did, so whenever we left we knew she was in good hands. Everyone is always cheerful and welcoming there is a lovely atmosphere in
the main dining area. I wish there were a few more activities for my dad to take part in.

My 76-year-old, double amputee husband is the care receiver from Dale Care. On Sunday the 30th of June he had to go to A&E, by ambulance. The carers came and hoisted him onto the stretcher at 5 pm. At about 11.30 pm had a call from the hospital to say that the ambulance was ready to transport him home
and could I ring the carers to meet the ambulance crew to hoist him off the stretcher. I rang the out-of-hours number for the carers and I was told the carers refuse to hoist him, and if the ambulance crew can get him in his chair he could be hoisted from the chair. By this time it was midnight, and for this to happen, another crew would have to come off the road to assist, a crew that could have been answering a 999 call, the scenario would have been, two crews to get him in his chair, for the carers to hoist him into his wheelchair, get him into the bedroom then hoist him again onto the bed, where the stretcher would have been placed at the bedroom door. Carers did not turn up that night.

The care my daughter has received since her discharge from hospital six weeks ago, has been abysmal to say the least.
The amount of different carers she has had in the last six weeks, has numbered 18 so far. Not good enough in my opinion, for something as personal as assisted showering.
The times
of the visits have been erratic and on one occasion, missed altogether.
Most of the carers (there are a few exceptions), know nothing about their client. How can they be expected to care for someone, if they know nothing about their medical condition or needs.
The lack of training and experience is very apparent. I feel your training methods need to be radically reviewed.

I have problems with my care. I have had to wait for extra care without dignity. My family and I have complained and raised concerns. It has been addressed and my care has been more reliable. I have wonderful carers but some who do not come to assist. I am diabetic and need time-critical care. I have
asked for help when I press my pendant and need it to be given to good time.

Dale Care looked after a friend of mine who was very reluctant to have care. She got used to the girls and was happy to have more care which was great as she did need the help.
They were all lovely and helpful and encouraged her to do things herself which was exactly what she needed. The office listened
to his needs and worked with us.
I would recommend it highly.

Dale Care - Redcar & Cleveland

from J A (Sister of Client) published on 11 March 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I cannot thank the staff enough for the kindness, empathy and support the members of staff showed me during my sister's end of life. I live in the south of England and did not often see my sister who had Parkinson's and Dementia, but the care and love they gave my sister were exceptional. When my sister
was later taken to a nursing home for end-of-life care, the lady from the office at The Dunes, took time out to take my sister's very treasured and battered teddy bear of nearly 80 years old, to be with her, so thoughtful. The flat my sister had was lovely and she attended the daycare centre every day with her nurse. Her nurse spoke very fondly of my sister as did all the staff, but it was clear that when my sister passed away, she was very upset. This just shows how much the staff invest personally in their clients and I cannot thank them enough for the support, kindness, flexibility and care they showed me when my sister passed.

Dreadful care for my mum, having come out of hospital with a fractured spine. Not turning up at suitable times, staying 10-15 mins for 30 mins calls, office not willing to make changes and unhelpful and rude. They really should have their contracts removed, absolutely shocking.
Surely claiming fees
for full calls when not delivering should be fraud?

What do you want from a care facility? Somewhere your loved ones can be safe and healthy, where you can have confidence that they will be looked after on those occasions that you or your family members can't attend. Dale Care Beechfield Court, Middlesbrough is an absolute disgrace. The carers in many
instances are great, but you try and get some sort of response to concerns from the management...absolutely shocking.

We have had issues with care provided to my sister, or not as the case has proven recently. Nobody bothered to turn up yesterday evening and we are unable to get a satisfactory explanation and nobody appears to be interested.
So much for the claim that first-class one-on-one care is provided, this
is absolutely not the case.

The carers who looked after my father over the weekend went above and beyond the call of duty. The area had an extended power cut and the team ensured he was fed and kept warm.
They also ensured they called his family whenever they found a spot with power.

My mother was a client of Dale Care for over five years during that time she was bedridden and lived with us until her death on 29th October. Although some of her carers kindly sent flowers cards and condolences, we have yet to receive any acknowledgment of her death that happened very quickly at home
from Dale Care, apart from a polite reply when l called that day to cancel the carers. We have found the care given and the service provided by the company wholly inadequate. Whilst some carers were good most were not and the good ones rarely stayed with a company that did not have their or the client's best interest at heart. I could go into detail, but am quite frankly exasperated with the whole experience and just want to forget about the shabby service they provided. The sooner the whole care system is overhauled and brought to task over their lack of respect and disregard for their carers and clients the better. The company is nothing more than a money-making operation.

Carers are incapable of wearing the correct PPE. We’ve contacted the company on numerous occasions regarding the issue and it continues to be a problem.
This morning carer took the visor off as soon as walked into the house. Complained to Dale Care about the issue, who apologised and said the issue
was being dealt with.
This evening mums carer did not even have a visor, we had to provide one. It’s every few days we have to provide the PPE that public Health England say the carers should be using to provide personal care.
It very much appears the company have no regard to the situation with Covid-19, or for the or duty of care for the vulnerable clients they care for, or their own staff for that fact.
Failures are very much coming from the management of the company. If the same client kept complaining about the same issue any competent manager would ensure the issue was dealt with and not allow the same issue twice a day.

Reply from Carol jackson, Marketing Manager at Dale Care - Durham

Thank you for your review. I understand there have been a number of conversations between everyone involved and yourselves. Whilst we have tried on every occasion to deal with the issues, that have arisen, sadly a satisfactory outcome has not been reached.

The carers in this organisation have been excellent. They have cared for my wife for the past 4-months, and I couldn't have asked for better care. The carers show genuine compassion and are prepared to go above and beyond to make sure my wife feels comfortable and safe. I thought she may have an issue
with being cared for, but this has never been a problem. The carers are now part of the family, and my wife looks forward to them coming. Quite frankly, I don't know how I would have coped with this difficult period without their help. I can't praise them enough and am extremely grateful for all that they have done and all that they are continuing to do.
