In Louis Tomlinson’s new video, the song has taken a back seat with the video instead focussing on 83-year-old Richard, who lost his wife to Alzheimer’s in the same month as the One Direction star lost his mum to leukemia.
In the heart-warming video, the pop singer helps Richard to achieve a list of things he had wanted to do since his wife Pat passed away in 2016.
The video for the song 'The Two of Us' shows Louis surprising Richard, saying he wants to help him tick a few things off of his bucket list, which includes having a helicopter lesson, going on a rollercoaster, performing to an audience and even, getting a tattoo, or rather he gives Louis a tattoo.
Louis, who in March also tragically lost his 18-year-old sister Felicite after she suffered a suspected cardiac arrest, said on Twitter: "A month or so ago I met an amazing man called Richard. He had a few things he wanted to do so I thought I'd help him out.
“Richard is a classic example of a fearless man who in light of tragedy still pushes himself to live with as much laughter and happiness as possible. This video feels particularly relevant and powerful to me.”
Unusually for a promotional video, the music is often barely audible and instead the young singer focuses on Richard, who takes centre stage.
The pair get on very well, and at one point the former taxi driver offers Louis an Eccles cake.
The music star talks to Richard about losing his mum, with Louis saying "She was 43, young yeah and we're a big family so it hit us hard."
Richard responds saying: “when Pat died, I couldn’t get over it. I used to weep…but over the years I thought, ‘got to get on with it’.”
Louis Tomlinson's song 'The Two of Us' is about the death of his mum in 2016, revealing his pain over losing her with the lyrics “You’ll never know how much I miss you, the day that they took you, I wish it was me instead.”
