I approached Helping Hands Home Care to provide an hour's care for my 85-year-old father in getting up in the morning, prior to my arrival later on to continue his care. The staff visited us at home to fully understand dad's needs as well as his usual morning routine, and to enable them to match carers
to him.

In the few months since they began coming the carers have always arrived at the agreed time and have been kind and respectful to my dad. He suffers from advanced Parkinson's and does most things very slowly, but his carers always show patience and understanding. They give him his morning pills and breakfast; assist with his personal care, getting dressed and moving around the house; and they always leave him comfortable in his chair with a cuppa. We have both been delighted at the care he is receiving. Although Helping Hands may appear costly, our experience is that the professionalism, reliability and kindness of carers and office staff make them worth every penny. My dad and I would happily recommend them.

My mother-in-law has been receiving care from Helping Hands for over a year, which includes twice-daily visits as well as support with day trips, medical appointments, and more. They have been absolutely fantastic.

She has been assigned an exceptional regular carer who has built a strong, trusting

relationship with her, making it much easier for her to accept the increasing levels of assistance with washing, personal care, and other needs.

The management team is highly responsive, always quick to address any last-minute requirements, and they consistently keep me and my wife informed about anything we need to know.

We also appreciate their online portal, where we can access up-to-date visit notes and information. This has been invaluable since my wife, who is severely disabled, and I have had to organize all of her mum's care from the other end of the country.

We highly recommend Helping Hands for their professional, compassionate, and reliable care.

We have been having the help of Helping Hands for over 12 months now. My wife has Alzheimer's and is non-mobile, non-verbal, and doubly incontinent. I need the extra help to get her out of bed in the morning, washed, dressed, and moved downstairs. The reverse in the evening is to wash/shower and get
her upstairs to bed. The team that helps have become friends, more than just carers who come in, do what they have to do and leave. There is always time to have a short chat/laugh etc. And I feel that they also are looking out for me as well. I am always advised in advance on the 'odd' occasion that the carer is running late or has been changed. Their support has certainly taken a load off my shoulders as I just wouldn't be able to cope without them. Thanks to all at HH Darlington.

Helping Hands has changed everything and dug our family out of a huge rut! I'm bed-bound with severe systemic illness. My husband now has to help care for me, the home and kids (including a baby). This has been too much for my husband (who had a stroke himself) and he's utterly defeated by it. Our house
became a real mess with every surface covered, dishes piled up and rooms we can't get into because of junk everywhere! But...Helping Hands came to the rescue! They help with everything: cleaning, tidying, washing, dishes, company and even talking my husband through his own tasks. They do it all very well and with such compassion. The administrative team are actually superhumans with a gift for care. They treat us like beloved family and accommodate our wishes so quickly and kindly. I'm almost at the word limit so I'll finish by saying that: thanks to this wonderful team, we have a more happy and comfortable home and we even have hope for the future for the first time in a long while.

My mother is 101 years old and with the help of the Helping Hands team in Darlington she has been able to continue to live in her own home. The team are very professional and caring and my mother always looks forward to their regular visits. These visits consist of administering medication, making meals,
supporting with dressing/undressing, and sitting and chatting to give my mother important socialising time. The local coordinator has been very supportive to myself, I've always been notified of any concerns regarding my mother's health or wellbeing and she has always been accommodating in arranging extra care at very short notice. I really can't recommend the team enough and I'm very grateful for their ongoing support.

Friendly, caring and considerate ladies who arrive on time and do an excellent job. They are well supported by an excellent management team. We have recently moved here from 170 miles away and knowing that they would be here to help us, from day one, made the whole experience less stressful for both
of us. Well done and we are very grateful.

My husband, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, remains fiercely independent and consequently has little insight into his care needs or my need for respite if I am to continue being able to care for him at home.
Helping Hands have addressed the issues this presents with sensitivity and great
care and have enabled us as a couple to find a way through.
The carer gives me peace of mind and does a range of very helpful domestic tasks, which eases my load greatly at the same time as being present for my husband’s safety.

Helping Hands have been providing care for my mam since Spring 2022. They are kind, caring, professional, friendly, responsive and proactive. They make me aware of my mam's changing needs and any concerns they have and have contacted the NHS when required to make sure Mam gets the care she needs, when
she needs it. They are also great company for her and always leave her with a smile on her face. They provide a brilliant service. Very pleased with them.

I have nothing but praise for the team at Helping Hands. We have used their services for the past 10 months for our dad and have been very impressed. The team are kind and considerate and has cared for him with the utmost professionalism. Nothing has been too much trouble. They are friendly and have
good banter with our dad during their visits. The management team are excellent and has always been available when we have called. We live 100 miles away, so having peace of mind that he is being cared for has been essential.

The lasses couldn't have done enough for mum. Mum was looked after as if she was their own family. They were kind, gentle and always made sure Mum was happy before they finished each day. I was given a written account of the day's actions and procedures in a handover diary so I knew what was going on
all the time.
Well done Helping Hands.
10/10 from me!

After a serious fall followed by residential respite care we needed care for our mother.
We are very pleased with the carers that go in each morning, more importantly our mother is. She tells us they’re all so nice to her, and do whatever she asks of them and always make her a cuppa.
They are reliable,
consistent in what they do and have a bit of banter with her.
We also have domestic work done every other week. Our mother is very particular about this being done! This is done to a very good standard.
We are pleased that we chose Helping Hands Home Care and know going forward if/when additional help is needed it will be handled as professionally and as well as we could wish.
Many thanks from us to all the team at Helping Hands Darlington.

My son has a "buddy" service. Which helps him access the community with a view to be as independent as he possibly could be following a brain injury and a stroke.
I can only speak from experience and my son's community support worker "buddy" is excellent.
Helping hands has discussed my son's future
hopes for independence (with my son and myself) and set in place practical goals for my son to achieve at a safe level to aid him to develop his confidence and his independence. Following a time scale that suits his unique abilities.
His buddies allow him to develop these skills without relying on family members thus allowing my son to feel an active member of the community and have some self-worth.

Reply from Caitlin Evans, Branch Care Manager at Helping Hands Home Care (Durham)

This has really put a smile on our faces here at the Durham office. We couldn't be happier that your son is able to live a more independent life, and I know how much his 'buddies' enjoy spending time with him and making sure that he is cared for. Thank you so much for this lovely review.

With very best wishes.

Helping Hands have been looking after my uncle at home for a few years now. It has always been a pleasure to liaise and communicate with them. They are responsive and friendly and provide a splendid, caring and considerate service to him, on many occasions their carers going ‘above and beyond’ often
without being asked. I would wholeheartedly recommend them.

from Susan S (Daughter of Client) published on 16 August 2021

Helping Hands stepped in after the 1st lockdown. Our elderly Dad had been living alone with no one close by. We realised he wasn't coping and was quite depressed, this is when we found Helping hands and how lucky were we! Initially, it was 30mins twice a week eventually being 4 times a day. The carers
would do everything for him, washing, cooking, shopping, and cleaning. Also, assist him with his personal care. They would contact us with any concerns and we were able to speak to someone to change visiting arrangements (quite often) and we always accommodated. He was once found collapsed by one of the carers and ended up spending a week in hospital, I dread to think what could have happened to him. The doctors have been called many times prescriptions ordered and changed with no input from us, we really felt like they cared. Sadly Dad has now moved into full time care, not an easy decision but after 1 too many fall his safety and wellbeing is now our priority. Thank you.
