Overall very satisfied with the care. I understand short notice changes due to staff sickness. All the carers are very good to me. When I'm feeling poorly, staff go the extra mile for me. Grateful thanks to all the staff.

Showering Assistance - Satisfactory.
Laundry - time taken to deliver clean laundry takes too long sometimes taking five days for return.

Although I have had a lot of problems with times (I'm diabetic). After many phone calls to the main office times are 90% improved and the overall help from the carers is excellent. They have a difficult job. So many clients require more help than others therefore exact times can't be adhered to. A slight
problem is that the carers whose first language isn't English have some problems with understanding requests, especially from me, so times are shorter with me. I have to keep repeating instructions but overall I am happy with their help. Thank you.

I am happy to write and say I have care here and treated with respect and kindness. They are all very friendly and I enjoy a chat when visited for my shower.

Am very happy here, have a lovely flat with a view. Carers are very kind and nothing is too much trouble. The only thing I find difficult is being tucked up in bed by 9.00 pm but I know this is only due to a shortage of carer.

Reply from Jill Pearson, Registered Care Manager at Way Ahead Care

Thank you so much for your kind words and it is lovely to hear that you are safe and happy where you live. In the scheme of which you live our carers only work until 10 pm and will have a number of service users to support to bed. The night provision is that of a sleepover over which means that they will respond to emergencies only from 10 pm and will not deliver assessed care after 10 pm.
I will ask the scheme if it is possible for you to have your call as late as possible.

I feel it necessary at these difficult times to express my appreciation, for the service provided by Way Ahead Care, in particular, his carers and all the other carers who visit and attend to my needs, so allowing me to remain in my own home.

My mother is 91 years old. On March 23rd this year, she was moved into sheltered housing in Taunton. This was the day that the UK moved into Lockdown. Way Ahead Care was the onsite care agency, so my mother was put into their daily care. The package was three visits a day, of half an hour each call.
It included hygiene and personal care, teatime care (to make her tea or supper), and bedtime care. Mother has acute mobility problems and suffers confusion so needs help and encouragement to enable her to function daily. Unfortunately, none of this happened. As the carers were only interested in doing just the minimum, dirty clothes were left on the floor and bedsheets also. Dishes were not cleared or washed up. On some occasions, they only visited her for 10 minutes. When I queried with the management, their attitude was defensive, dismissive and rude, replying if it isn't in the care plan it won't be done. I thought caring was about empathy, compassion and kindness. Not so Way Ahead.

Reply from Richard Smith, Managing Director at Way Ahead Care

We do not believe this is an accurate account. It becomes challenging to deviate away in regards to what we are commissioned and regulated to provide. Providing additional support that is not supported by either a care assessment, care plan or contact invokes regulatory challenges. You were offered the option to purchase additional time to support - but this was declined at every occasion. There were a number of teething problems at the start of the package but these were investigated and actions were put in place to prevent further underperformances.
There was also an additional carer visiting your mother paid for by yourself. I refute my staff were dismissive. Defensive, certainly, based on the abusive and threatening tone of your emails and phone calls. So much so we served notice on the care package. This is not something we do lightly but based on you being so unpleasant we had very little choice. Certainly not ideal for your mother who was a pleasure to care for.

All through the lockdown, Mum's carers have continued to visit daily. As she has limited visitors due to the social isolating necessary at the moment, she has no other visitors. It really brightens her day when her carers come. They are very friendly, and Mum usually has a bit of a laugh with them as
well as them completing her care. It is the highlight of her day. We are so thankful as a family that her care has been provided continuously throughout this difficult time and in such a caring way. A big thank you to you all.

We find Way Ahead Care really helpful, friendly and caring, which is what is most important looking after my elderly Mum. They always look clean and tidy and hygienic. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

I have mainly had very good care by some excellent carers. The main problem is timing.

Without being too precious, I cannot fault my care provider and the individual carers who provide for my needs.
As a double amputee, who has hiatus hernia and who has a catheter, my needs are fairly complex. With this in mind, I cannot fault my care provider and the individual carers who attend to
me each morning.
Whilst being an independent person, I have to concede that there are certain things I cannot do. I cannot make my bed, nor wash my back and buttocks and being wheelchair bound, it is difficult for me to get glasses of water to my bedroom etc. My Way Ahead carers take care of this for me.

As I am disabled and in my eighties, I have been using the services of Way Ahead Care for the past four months purely to aid me in domestic tasks. I have found their carers to be most pleasant, polite, friendly and efficient. I also have terminal ovarian and colon cancer and know that when the time
comes, that I will require more personal care. Way Ahead Care can provide that as they tailor care plans to individual needs and I can have confidence in their ability to provide carers with the necessary skills.

This all started after my partner was admitted to MPH and diagnosed with cancer which caused to be unable to walk. All care was organised from MPH. My partner came home on the 25th April at 8pm and had 2 visits from carers that evening. The care up to the present day has been excellent from your company,
nothing has been too much trouble for them.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.357 for Way Ahead Care is calculated as follows: ( (20 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 42 Ratings = 4.357

The 5 points relating to the number of Positive Reviews for Way Ahead Care is based on 6 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows: 3 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.1 = 4.6

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
