At Betamindes, staff are fully committed to supporting your independence, whether in your own home, out and about or here at the Day Centre.

It is committed to providing the highest quality care service throughout the Cheshire area including Nantwich, Crewe, Shavington, Wistaston, Wybunbury, Haslington and Sandbach.

The services include the provision of community home care and respite care services facilitated in the day centre.

At Betamindes, staff work collaboratively with other health providers to deliver a person-centred, holistic service to the individuals supported.

The CQC inspection in 2019 rated Betamindes as Good overall and they are constantly striving to improve. Staff actively encourage feedback from all the stakeholders involved in the delivery of support services and endeavour to provide a reactive response as part of their promise.

Staff know that the transition from living independently to requiring support can be overwhelming. Staff are here to offer expertise and support throughout the journey and advocate working in the best interests of those who use the services.

The Betamindes culture promotes richness, meaningfulness and engagement for those who are supported. Betamindes was recommended to us when we needed a carer for Mum in 2013. She quickly took to the loving and sensitive care. When Dad started to need care in 2015 it was a no-brainer to call on Betamindes again. The carers were skilled (both practically and emotionally) in dealing with Dad's increasingly
individual and complex needs. We have always thought of them as our "Angels of Mercy" and will be forever grateful for their care and love.

I cannot fault the care my 96-year-old mother has received during the 12 months of using Betamindes Ltd. The staff are kind, caring and very helpful. The daycare centre is both relaxing and also full of activities to keep the mind stimulated. The centre also provides excellent home care.

Wife was engaged throughout the day with a variety of crafts, music, discussions and other interests. The food was varied and well received. Staff have been cheerful, caring and respectful. Wife has raised no complaint over the weeks and always welcomes the days when she is taken to Betamindes.

Father-in-law enjoyed his days with Betamindes albeit only a short time. Mum has started to attend and participates in the activities, eats a good lunch and enjoys the company. After taking a while to get her to attend, she realises that it's company she misses at home. It gives me peace of mind that
she is well cared for. Weekends are starting to be a problem as she does not get out of bed 'as nothing to do'.

My partner attended the day centre for about 2 years and she loved it. Her mood was always a lot happier when I picked her up and she slept better afterwards. Having the support of the day centre meant my partner stayed at home for a lot longer than we anticipated as I was able to manage with having
a break.

The staff are sensitive and thoughtful in the way they deal with Mum and our family whilst we travel the dementia journey. It is hard to support someone who is having to give up her independence but still insists she can do lots of things which are now beyond her. They have worked hard to develop her
trust and maintain her dignity whilst doing the personal stuff. They have been unfailingly patient whilst her demands and preferences change from day to day.


My only complaint is that we haven't yet found a foolproof way of communicating with them on the little things, which are often the most important. The care file is always filled in but rarely do they have time to look at the family section so we have resorted to a notepad on the kitchen counter. Our situation is that I live nearby and we pop in most days so maybe this is a bit unusual. Overall I find the care plan file a bit confusing, and not very user-friendly because it can be difficult to find the relevant page.

We are very pleased with the care my brother is receiving. The ladies and gent are very caring and dedicated to their work.


My brother seems happy and pleased to see his carers, this means a lot to us. They have great respect for him and are eager to learn about his past. Hopefully, this will enable

them to interact with him on subjects he is familiar with.


It is also important to have dementia training and talking to some of the carers they have also experienced it within their family.

Ian Cowley

Job Title: Managing Director

Ian is from the local area and has been in business since the age of 23. He ran a successful joinery/carpentry business for 25 years before setting up Betamindes in 2005 with his wife Dawne. Ian has a personal interest and experience of looking after family members with different types of dementia and has used this extensive knowledge to create the quality service provided today.


‘On setting up Betamindes we had a very clear picture of the future, “our vision”. Today we are determined to stick to our principles and believe that everyone is entitled to the care package of their choice and Betamindes will be there to support our clients to make the process as seamless as possible’

Dawne Cowley

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2005

Dawne worked within the NHS as a Registered Mental Nurse from 1985 – 2006, gaining vast knowledge and experience in the psychiatric arena before moving specifically into Dementia care in the late 1990s.


Dawne set up and managed day care centres in joint ventures with the NHS and Social Services in the West Midlands and South Cheshire area before launching Betamindes in 2005 as a family run business in her local area of Wistaston.

Annette McDougall

Job Title: Operations Manager

Joined: 2023

I have worked within the Care industry for over 20 years starting as a care worker for several years and working my way up the managerial ladder to a Registered Care Manager's role.


My passion for care began at a young age when, unfortunately, my late Grandma fell ill with Dementia, and she had to move in with my parents and me. I started to care for her while both my parents went out to work. I soon realised that the passion I had for care would turn out to be a profession.


Throughout my caring profession, I have worked with clients with Challenging Behaviour, Learning Disabilities, Dementia, and Mental Health not just within the community but also within a residential setting.


Since becoming a Registered Manager in 2014, I have managed to win the Registered Managers award for the Northwest at the Great British Care Awards in 2016. I was honoured to also win the Registered Manager Award 2018 for the West Midlands and for Cheshire East with the Great British Care Awards which was a very proud achievement.


I enjoy Gardening and spending time with my family. I enjoy travelling and socializing with my friends. I also spend a lot of time with my Parents, we enjoy shopping and eating out together. I take them out at the weekend which keeps them active.


I have a dog called Milo who is only a puppy, so he keeps me on my toes.

I have worked within the care sector since leaving school, I started as a business administrator, in a domiciliary care company, making my way up to be the care coordinator. I have also worked within a dementia care home and a medical oxygen company, so I have a lot of knowledge in different areas of care which will be helpful in my role as Care Administrator. I take pride in my work and like to feel I am making a difference in someone’s life. I came into the care sector as this is something that I am passionate about. A care background is something that is in my family which led me to want to make a career in the care sector.
Outside of my working life, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, I love cooking, nail art and having a laugh with people and try to always look on the bright side of life.

Amanda Dykes

Job Title: Care Field Supervisor

Joined: 2024

I grew up locally.


I have had a varied career so far in my working life. I started with being a supermarket manager for 10 years, then I enjoyed care work for a while, and then I became a fully qualified pharmacy dispenser.


I am now enjoying my new position with Betamindes as a Care Field Supervisor.


Outside of work, I have 3 children and a Grandaughter.


Family is very important to me and I recently relocated back to the Crewe area from Suffolk to be closer to my mum who needs support due to her having dementia.


I am very active and have done Taekwondo for 3 1/2 years and I am also a member of the GTUK England squad, most recently winning Gold medals in the European Championships in 2024.


I find doing Martial Arts gives me confidence and a determined mindset.

I have been working in the care sector for over 4 years. Before that, I worked in Education.


I enjoy working in the care industry and I get a lot of job satisfaction out of knowing I can make a difference in someone's life and also play a small part in combating issues such as loneliness and
isolation.


Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, my husband, children and grandchildren.
To relax I enjoy crafts such as knitting, crochet and art. However, I am always happiest when I am sitting on a beach in the sunshine.
