Your carers are so friendly and helpful. They make our beds once a week. Do the washing up from time to time and take letters to post.

Generally a good, caring staff group but sometimes not good at detail, good at confidentiality. Always bright and cheerful and quick to notice changes in skin integrity. All in all, a good team.

I have been very happy with the care given to my Mum. My only issue was the time slots from morning to lunch were very short gaps at times. Mum is very happy with her carers and they are very pleasant and helpful to her needs.

Candlelight Care looked after my husband and supported me for about three years. I was in hospital having hip surgery when he passed away in a home, mainly due to Covid. When I got home, Candlelight carried on supporting me while I recovered. I couldn't have managed without them.

Generally punctual, business-like and friendly. I think it's a pity that none of the bosses come and see clients. Have not met any.

The turnover of staff is very high and the time schedules differ from what is given to you of the times and staff.
The management, very unprofessional! A lot of falsifying and cover-ups by them, some of the carers are always in a rush, with me cleaning up afterwards.

The person who helps my mother with her change of laundry fortnightly is very kind and helpful. She comes on time and does all the things that have been agreed beforehand. We will use the same company if and when she needs more help.

Our regular carer is excellent but some of the other carers, and the staff who organise the weekly schedules, could benefit from more training in their understanding of people with Alzheimer's. Clients need to be contacted if their carer is going to be later than scheduled or if the carer has been changed.
We have been contacted recently asking if we can "do without" our evening visit (and given various reasons that are not our problem) as they were having trouble covering the call. If my wife's condition was understood by the staff then they should have known that I would not be able to cope without either of our visits. Their biggest failing with us has been data protection, as we have had correspondences for another client with the same surname on more than one occasion, which leaves us believing our information has been compromised as well.

Lorna Kent

Job Title: Registered Manager, (Dorset, Somerset & Wiltshire Team)

Joined: 2014

Lorna oversees the running of the Sherborne and Corsley branches ensuring that safe, high-quality care is delivered to all clients. This includes recruitment, staff management, liaising with health professionals and commissioners, and resolving issues which arise. Lorna's career in care spans over 35 years and includes roles in Day Care, Nursing, Residential and Domiciliary Care.


Lorna is very family orientated and enjoys baking particularly at Christmas time (she is well known for her homemade Christmas puddings), spending time with family and friends and walking with her dog Tizer.


Lorna achieved her level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care in 2016


Mandy

Mandy Shuckford

Job Title: Deputy Manager (Corsley)

Mandy is responsible for working alongside her Registered Manager Lorna in ensuring the running of the branches, Meetings, Co-Ordinating, Assessments, Reviews, Observations, taking on new packages and managing staff Annual Leave are, some of the jobs Mandy does in her day-to-day life.

Maria is a highly experienced care professional, having worked in the sector for 35 years. She joined Candlelight Care in 2014. Maria loves sailing and getting out on the water, she also enjoys walking her dog and looking after her grandchildren.

Lucy Bowers

Job Title: Team Leader/Care & Support Worker

Joined: 2016

Lucy joined Candlelight in 2016 as a C&SW after moving to Frome from London. She is now a team leader working in the community and supporting the office team.

Outside work she enjoys spending time with her teenage children and renovating her home, doing all things DIY! She also loves gardening and doing anything creative.


Karen

Karen Templeman

Job Title: Administrator Assistant (Sherborne)

Joined: 2018

Karen is an Office Administrator covering the Sherborne area and assists her colleagues in ensuring the smooth running of the office.


Before joining Candlelight Care Karen worked in Estate Agency (Residential Sales and Lettings), working her way up during a 30-year career to become a Director.


Outside of work, Karen's life revolves around her animals which include numerous dogs, cats, ponies, chickens, and rabbits. She and her family enjoy the social life connected with showing some of the dogs and exhibiting at Crufts every year, where they are able to meet up with their friends from overseas.


Roxanne

Roxanne

Job Title: Recruitment Officer

Joined: 2020

As our Recruitment Officer, Roxanne (Roxy) helps us to find new care and support staff to look after our clients in their own homes. In addition to posting new jobs on job sites, social media, and other outlets, she attends recruitment fairs and is constantly looking for ways to improve our recruitment process. She supports our potential new employees from the moment they apply for a job until they are invited for an interview, answering their questions, chasing up CVs and applications, and sometimes meeting for an informal chat in person or on the phone.


Prior to joining Candlelight Care Roxy provided private care on a 1:1 basis for an individual with Downs Syndrome and Dementia in Cornwall, and she has also worked as a ‘Field Supervisor’ (CTM) for a care company in Torbay, supporting a team of care workers with supervisions, spot-checks and medication sign-offs. So she understands the rewards and challenges of care work!

Away from the office, Roxy is a member of the Mere Amateur Dramatics society, which put on two productions a year in the Spring and Autumn. She has always loved performing and studied Acting at University, where she was able to tour regionally and Internationally in their productions.
