*Regular Short Respite Carers Breaks*

Are you supporting someone with care needs — a family member, neighbour, or friend? The team of trained professionals provides unpaid carers with time for the things they want to do. A team member will support the person with care needs either in or out of the home. Short respite carers breaks are a minimum of 2 hours per visit. A free consultation is offered to design the support around your individual needs.

The length of time for these services will vary and will be discussed during a free consultation. From this, the team will create an individual support plan that may include the following:

- Meal preparation and assistance with feeding if required
- Bathing, dressing, and undressing
- Continence management
- Assistance with medication
- Assistance with mobility and transfers
- Shopping
- Light domestic duties, including laundry
- Support for activities outside the home, such as hobbies and socialising

Crossroads has supplied me with a wonderful support worker who has been consistent for a number of years, caring for my very disabled husband, and who has made a huge difference.

I have been very pleased with the help Crossroads has provided, enabling myself as a carer to have a regular break away from the house once a week. The sitter is a friendly, kind, caring lady who engages with my elderly father and shows a genuine interest in conversing with him. She is punctual and
I feel confident, despite my initial reservations, to go out and leave my father in her care for two hours. Crossroads keep me well-informed with regards to occasional changes to visits, e.g. a different person coming, and I am very grateful for their support.

Crossroads is a very good company, it helps people to have free time when you are a carer and helps the client have some time away from the carer.

The service is of good help and the person who comes to us is great in every way. She is polite and very aware of her duties, which are carried out to the letter. I think that my only concern is that the company should ask carers to pass comments on the way your staff appraisals are done, because they
are good staff.

Reply from Vanessa Perkins, Client Partnership and Engagement Manager at Crossroads Caring For Life

Thank you for your positive feedback. We are happy to hear how much you value your support worker and she is diligent and kind. I appreciate your suggestion about getting feedback from the unpaid carer about the Crossroads Caring For Life staff. We always feedback to them any comments, compliments they may receive at a client review or from a telephone conversation to the coordinators. It is important they know how much they have a positive impact on the lives of the people they support. We will ensure your comments are passed on to your regular worker.

Crossroads have been caring for my husband for five years. I have always found the service excellent. It allows me a few hours every week to 'be myself'; having a coffee with a friend, shopping, being with family, knowing that my husband is being looked after with kindness, consideration and professionalism.

Crossroads provide me with three hours respite on Mondays (11:30 to 2:30) and Wednesday (12:00 to 3:00). Both carers have formed a close bond with my wife and are wonderfully caring and empathetic. My occasional dealings with the management have been more than satisfactory.

I am provided with support to go shopping, companionship, and someone to talk to. Crossroads helps me to make my own choices, e.g. whether I or not I decide to attend my day centre. My carers are friends to me. An ex-carer takes me to visit my 97-year-old mother by car, who lives in Stevenage.

Overall, care is very good. The carers are aware of my needs, but one of my carers can sometimes be quite grumpy. They look after me both at home and will take me shopping or to appointments if needed.

Initially I was rather sceptical about having a complete stranger come into my home to sit with my husband who was virtually immobile. However, after the first couple of visits I began to feel really quite comfortable with the situation. My husband had Alzheimer’s so was not able to remember who had
come or why or when they came, but he was quite happy to have someone new to talk to, who took an interest in his well being and in what he had to say. So it was a very good working relationship.

Crossroads Caring For Life look after my wife eighteen hours every week. The care is second to none. They always keep me informed if a change is needed. They also have been able to help us if I have needed additional help.
Without their help, I could not have continued looking after my wife. The ladies
who look after her ensure they do all they can to have the best quality of life she can. They always leave her smiling and that is a god send.

My brother and I have used Crossroads for our mother. We have had the service for many years and we are very satisfied with the care given. They are always punctual and very kind to mother. They meet her needs, above and beyond sometimes. They are very respectful of Mum's home. If I have any queries
they act on them swiftly. I'm always notified of any changes to service i.e different person coming. They are like part of the family, very considerate to our needs too and very supportive.
