We have a daily morning care call for my husband, in his late 70s with Parkinson's; with different carers each day we find all the carers are professional, caring and non-judgemental about the situation in front of them or our home. Of course, some carers we feel bring more and we enjoy those who bring
an encouraging vibe, establish rapport with the caree, and give attention to detail to the tasks. We appreciate that they pick up on changes in both physical condition and mood.
We've found that the office team is very responsive to our requests and always contactable.

We used Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury to provide visiting respite care for my Mum whilst we were on holiday. The idea was to do a daily visit to check she was Ok while we were away and to carry out any tasks needed during this time - such as shopping, cleaning, laundry etc or to deal with any medical
issues at home that may have cropped up.
The ten day spell went absolutely as we had hoped it would with my Mum getting on really well with all the visiting carers - thoroughly enjoying the company and a chat whilst we were provided with the peace of mind of knowing that help was available should it have been needed.
From the initial visit to complete the assessment and discuss the process Radfield made the whole scenario really easy and worthwhile. We have asked to stay now in a position where we can repeat this process in the future - even for shorter periods.
We thoroughly recommend the company, its staff and the idea of short term respite care.

When Dad left hospital, we were anxious about how we would meet his care needs. Thanks to Radfield, Dad made a smooth transition home, achieving his post-surgery dream! Well briefed carers were on hand from Day 1 to reassure and advise. Carers show initiative, tailoring provision and passing key information
on to us and each other. A range of carers with different life experiences and thoughtful scheduling mean that there is a good mix of continuity and variety for Dad who can grow connections with carers during visits. Day to day, the app is brilliant, reassuring us that all is well and highlighting any necessary actions. The central team's oversight means that care is coordinated and responsive. Queries are dealt with quickly and requested changes accommodated. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Radfield - there is an attention to detail and level of care that I didn't expect would be possible. With them, Dad can stay in his own home, in the community he loves, a great result!

I chose Radfield as I liked each member of staff I interacted with when choosing a care provider for my 91 year old father.
Since the outset the experience has been fantastic. It's been more than a year since we started evening support for my father and it works superbly.
The carers are professional,
friendly but respectful and systematically patient and positive.
I feel my father is in the safest of hands when they come. One of his carers on the Radfield team is a national award winner. That says it all for me.

My late wife, who was herself a social worker,, always spoke very highly of Radfield. When my son, who has a life limiting condition, started being really unwell and needed more care at home, I had no hesitation choosing Radfield. I've not been disappointed. The carers are kind and efficient, and, fair
to say, just wonderful in the case of the more regular carer we've had the pleasure of having. For their part, I've always found the office staff very helpful and accommodating. A highly commendable organisation.

Radfield carers have been looking after my husband for three years now and they have always carried out their work with skill and good humour. Always on time and complete their tasks to a very high standard, especially the personal care which has ensured that his skin is in excellent condition even
though he is confined to a wheelchair.
As my husband's dementia has become much worse recently they have really supported me in dealing with his challenging behaviour, and as he now needs full time nursing care in a residential setting I will be always grateful that I found such an excellent company to care for him, both at home and at the day centre where he looked forward to going every week.
Thank you everyone, those of you in the office who always made sure that I was alright and the visiting staff whose conversations I will miss very much. I cannot recommend you highly enough.

Delighted with the service received over the last 12 months and beyond. My father, the service user often becomes emotional and says he has the best care in the world.

We have worked with the team from Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury continuously since 2021 supporting us in the care of both of our parents. They have provided us with a wide range of services ranging from short calls to check on well being, regular visits to maintain independence, longer companionship
calls to support a client with dementia, visits during hospital stays, overnight stays, through to and including 24/7 live in care and end of life care. I would have no hesitation in recommending them and have done so to friends and family members. They have been an invaluable support during some very difficult times and many of the staff have become friends.

Mum has been receiving a double handed call 4 times per day for almost 2 years with Radfields Home Care.
Without the dedication and care shown by the Radfield team, I have no doubt Mum would not be with us.
each member of staff greets Mum at every call treating her with respect and allowing her to
make choices, at times needing to gently persuade her to allow them to undertake personal care when she feels she doesn't require it.
Radfields may be more expensive than some other care agency but they are worth their weight in gold, nothing is ever too much for them.
Her skin is intact now unlike when she was discharged home from hospital with pressure ulcers and very underweight and this is all thanks to the excellent care Mum has been given. .

We as a family are 100% happy with the care our mum receives, she has dementia and all staff are sympathetic and understanding of her needs. Staff also contact us if they think mum is having a bad day or if there is something different to report. Mum attends the day centre twice a week and this has
become her lifeline (for us as family also) everyone involved has become mum's extended family! Thank you everyone for your care and kindness shown to our mum!

The carers are marvelous visitors for Daddy. They are kind and considerate, treat him with respect, do whatever they can to be helpful and are aways open to any comments, for example, making smaller sandwiches to tempt him to eat at night. There is often not that much to do so we appreciate them sitting
and chatting with Daddy as the company is always welcome.

Prompt, effective, excellent care givers who follow all instructions, carers listen to stories that my relative tells and are interested in her. There is a fabulous app to check visits and see what my relative has eaten and drunk that day, every item during the visit is communicated to the family through
the app, and communication with company is brilliant. Highly recommend.

I called upon Radfield for help when I could no longer care for my husband myself. He had suffered a stroke and had terminal cancer. Without exception, all the Radfield carers were kind and considerate in their care of my husband. In the end, some felt like friends and their experience of similar situations
was enormously helpful to me. I was very impressed with how they reacted to the decline in his health, changing the way they dealt with him accordingly. It has been a very hard and sad time for me and my family but we are grateful for Radfield's support in enabling us to look after my husband at home until the very end.

Radfield have been brilliant at looking after my elderly Dad who is 94 and suffers from a bit of dementia. They would ring me if they had any concerns and they went out of their way to make his life easier. They would do all sorts of odd jobs for him that he asked. I was totally at ease knowing they
were going to see him every day. If I ever needed to contact the office they were always very professional and responsive. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Radfield care team have been looking after my mum for the past twelve months. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Each carer treats Mum with respect and tends to her needs to the best of their ability.

Radfield Home Care have been caring for my husband, who suffers from a complex and progressive illness, for some time now. The carers who visit are all kind and very respectful of his dignity which I find reassuring. They always go the extra mile willingly if necessary.
His skin is in excellent condition
largely due to the diligent application of various creams and they are quick to point out any areas of concern. This is particularly important considering his lack of mobility.
As his illness progresses his care needs keep changing and these have always been accommodated to suit.
Whenever I have had reason to contact the office I have been dealt with promptly and efficiently which comes from the good management which is very evident.
My husband attends Radfield Day Centre once a week and though he contributes less and less due to his illness he is still happy to attend which is great for both of us.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Radfield if asked.

The experience of my aunt with Radfield has been excellent. My aunt finds the staff consistently kind, friendly and professional, and they enable her feel safe and secure in her own home. And we, her family feel very comfortable and assured that our aunt is safe and well looked after, and that Radfield
take care of her in the widest sense, and don't just deliver an agreed number of visits. Radfield are very responsive and proactive when we hit problems, responding flexibly and promptly.

Job Title: Operations Manager

We would like to introduce you to Karen, Operations Manager for Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury and Oswestry. Karen supports, manages, guides and directs the care management team and undertakes business development work in the local communities that the office services.


Karen joined Radfield as an Operations Manager in February 2021 having spent over 35 years within the retail and customer service sector, most recently as a department store manager for a well-known high street store. Alongside this, Karen worked with various different charities, befriending societies, community groups and local care homes, making her best placed to take up the role of Operations Manager.

Lewis Collins

Job Title: Recruitment & Training Manager

We would like to introduce you to Lewis Collins, Recruitment & Training Manager at Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry. Lewis is responsible for recruiting our care team. He ensures that all potential Care Professionals are suited for the role and provides a smooth onboarding process for them.


Lewis has a varied background, initially attending the Defence Sixth Form College as an Army Bursar and continuing on the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme with the Army Reserve at University until 2012.


Upon leaving University, Lewis was accepted into the A Level accelerated Management programme with a very high profile supermarket chain. He managed a team of 15 colleagues and sometimes the entire store in both the Superstore & Extra formats. He became heavily involved in the recruitment & induction of new colleagues, giving him first experience in recruitment and retention.


Lewis then moved into a recruitment role in the IT & Digital space, going on to work as an Account Manager for a Digital Design Agency in Shrewsbury for 18 months.


During lockdown, after a year of working from home alone - he felt the call to switch to a more ‘people focused’ role. Enter, the social care sector. Lewis worked for a local charity as a support worker with adults with learning disabilities. After 9 months, he spotted the Recruitment & Training Manager role at Radfield Home Care.


“Maintaining my desire to stay in the Social Care sector, with a more Managerial role that would allow me to influence things in a positive way more readily, I applied, interviewed and was accepted. I am also currently undergoing selection to be a Soldier again in the Army Reserve in my spare time, away from work, hoping I can build on my managerial abilities and skills in other areas through that venture.”


Lewis goes on to say:


“The social care sector can be a shock to the system for anyone without previous experience, however, the rewards are massive. There was certainly a desire to stay in the sector, I enjoy making a difference to people’s lives on a daily basis, however small. Knowledge of what I was getting myself into was pretty important for me and helped my transition into a more office based, holistic type management role.”


Before moving into recruitment, Lewis had completed a care certificate during his time as a Support Worker, the same as Care Professionals do at Radfield. He also holds various First Aid & MAPA related certificates. By obtaining these skills, he has developed an understanding of what the Care Professionals on the ground are working with on a daily basis.


“Hopefully my interviewing, onboarding and induction skills will put me in good stead to identify good quality Care Professionals, and make their transition to Radfield as seamless as possible, understanding the challenges in recruitment in the Care sector as a whole.”


Gemma

Gemma Baugh

Job Title: Care Manager

We would like to introduce you to Gemma Baugh, Care Manager for Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury and Oswestry. Gemma is responsible for liaising with clients, families and professionals to manage care needs and staff deployment, the creation and management of the rotas for clients and carers, and fundamentally, the safe running of the office.


Gemma explains her path to Care Manager:


“I am a mother of 6 children, all of which are home-educated, and I previously worked as a vending operator filling the machines in hospitals and HMRC offices. I left to take care of my Nan who moved in with me when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. When my Nan passed away, I went into domiciliary care as I wanted to provide care for people’s loved ones as I did with my Nan. I then moved from Telford to Shrewsbury, where I applied to Radfield to be a Care Professional. I have made some great relationships with both the clients and the other Radfield colleagues. Things really took off from there, and I have had the opportunity to work in our branch office, as the Care Coordinator. And recently I have been fortunate to be appointed as the Care Manager, and all the while, undertaking my Level 5 Diploma in Health & Social Care alongside this – so there are plenty of opportunities to progress in the Social Care sector.”


Since joining Radfield as a Care Professional back in April 2022, Gemma’s experience and passion have proved so important:


“I feel I have lots of experience within the sector after working in the care sector for some time both personally with my Nan and with a company like Radfield. I’ve been fortunate to be able to work with a wide range of clients and care professionals, understanding their needs, and trying to build fulfilling relationships to ensure the best care for our people.
