Radfield Home Care looked after my uncle from when he was diagnosed with lung cancer until he passed away last week. Their care has always been finely tuned to his needs and wishes. I could not rate the whole team more highly for professionalism and compassion. They were extremely reliable and reassuring
- right the way through the Coronavirus pandemic - they kept him safe and well looked after. When the time came to increase his care, they responded immediately. The manager of the team was very kind and compassionate to me... full of reassurance that he would be well looked after. Everyone that came to visit was treated kindly and thoughtfully - it was evident that my uncle was being beautifully looked after. He grew very fond of many of the carers and each night when I spoke to him he was always so grateful for their help and kindness. As I am sure you can tell from this review - I highly recommend Radfield Home Care.

Having stayed with my mum for nearly two weeks following a fall which she had. She soon began to feel better during the day times, but I was still unhappy at leaving her at night time, due to her still having difficulty at getting out of bed safely during the night to use the toilet. I was recommended
Radfield Home Care by my cousin who had previously used them for her mother. I found the manager to be very helpful in setting up the night supervisions, and the first-night carer who I met, was very professional and caring. The literature provided is very informative, and the care Planning app is an excellent way to read the reports produced by each carer who looked after my mum. Especially as I do not live local to my mum. I contacted the manager on many occasions and each time I found her to be helpful patient and understanding.

Thank you for all the care and support you have given my mother during this very difficult time. My mum is easily unsettled, prone to wandering and requires dedicated one to one care. Your staff have been diligent and responsive to her needs and kept her happy. It has been a great comfort to know that
she has someone with her while we are unable to see her.

My mother has been at a care home for about two years now. Having been living in Ludlow, some miles away, I was aware of my mother's loneliness, and the onset of dementia was a devastating blow to her. I have tried to visit whenever possible, usually with my 8yr old son, but we all realised she needed
more social stimulation. This need increased when her incessant wanderings began to frustrate the care home staff, so we arranged for extra care. We had been using another company but had issues, so chose to jump ship and change to Radfield.
Radfield are completely reliable, and the staff are some of the most wonderful people I've ever met. They are all very warm people, who engage mum in all the activities she loves to do. They do their job with love, which I see every day when I video call her (family no visits now due to Covid epidemic) and when I see pics from Radfield. Mum now looks so happy and it fills me with joy.

Thank you James for your wonderful review. All our staff are trained in Dementia care and always work very closely to stimulate and motivate our clients to be as creative as they would like to be. Our care staff love singing, playing games and doing art and crafts with your mother, all of this brightens up her day. I will pass your lovely message on to our care team.

I have been extremely pleased with the services Radfield have provided for both my mother and father. The carers are very reliable and show great compassion and care. On several occasions due to medical emergencies, they have stayed beyond their allocated times until a satisfactory outcome has been
arranged. All the carers are friendly and professional. When we have needed help the office have accommodated our requests promptly and without fuss. Highly recommend.

All carers that have come to support my mum and dad have been kind, helpful and understanding. The manager is always keen to help and support us as much as she can and checks if the service can be improved in any way. Both my mum and dad are happy to get support and I am pleased with the service they
deliver. Thank you Radfield.

Carers from Radfield assisted me as primary carer and wife of the patient who was in the last stages of his fatal illness. They were courteous, professionally friendly with me and the elder (92) patient. Their professional care and handling of him was meticulous at all times. They followed the instructions
of the hospice at home nurse and the district nurses in order to comfort, calm and cleanse him, working quietly and efficiently.

The carers promote good care and are generally very reliable. Problems do arise sometimes when carers ring in sick on a weekend. Office staff friendly and helpful.

My mother started using the care services at Radfield Home Care in mid-October. Since then, we have been impressed by the professional, caring service she has received. We particularly liked the initial 'setting up' of the contract. All aspects were carefully explained with no hidden costs. I also like
that there is an office to visit rather than dealing with a 'faceless' business. Overall, so far, very happy.

Carers:
Punctual in attending. Make time for conversation (which is important). Will re-introduce themselves to my mother (who has dementia) each visit. Adapt to whatever needs to be done on arrival at home and is professional in carrying out all duties. Friendly and cheerful and patient with both
my parents.

Office:
I appreciate the proactive management of scheduling and notice of emergency changes to schedules.

I have no complaints at all regarding staff and carers. However, I would say that the time allowed for the carers to get from place to place is ridiculous and results in them being late as the day goes on, no fault of theirs! Something should be done about it!

No complaints at all regarding the carers.

All very pleasant and helpful.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our service. We are sorry to hear your concerns about our carers travel time. Recently due to the roadworks around Shrewsbury carers have unfortunately been made late. We will, of course, review the travel time given to our staff and try to ensure that these problems don't arise in future.

We would like to introduce you to Karen, Operations Manager for Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury and Oswestry. Karen supports, manages, guides and directs the care management team and undertakes business development work in the local communities that the office services.

Karen joined Radfield as an Operations Manager in February 2021 having spent over 35 years within the retail and customer service sector, most recently as a department store manager for a well-known high street store. Alongside this, Karen worked with various different charities, befriending societies, community groups and local care homes, making her best placed to take up the role of Operations Manager.

Job Title: Recruitment & Training Manager

We would like to introduce you to Lewis Collins, Recruitment & Training Manager at Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry. Lewis is responsible for recruiting our care team. He ensures that all potential Care Professionals are suited for the role and provides a smooth onboarding process for them.

Lewis has a varied background, initially attending the Defence Sixth Form College as an Army Bursar and continuing on the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme with the Army Reserve at University until 2012.

Upon leaving University, Lewis was accepted into the A Level accelerated Management programme with a very high profile supermarket chain. He managed a team of 15 colleagues and sometimes the entire store in both the Superstore & Extra formats. He became heavily involved in the recruitment & induction of new colleagues, giving him first experience in recruitment and retention.

Lewis then moved into a recruitment role in the IT & Digital space, going on to work as an Account Manager for a Digital Design Agency in Shrewsbury for 18 months.

During lockdown, after a year of working from home alone - he felt the call to switch to a more ‘people focused’ role. Enter, the social care sector. Lewis worked for a local charity as a support worker with adults with learning disabilities. After 9 months, he spotted the Recruitment & Training Manager role at Radfield Home Care.

“Maintaining my desire to stay in the Social Care sector, with a more Managerial role that would allow me to influence things in a positive way more readily, I applied, interviewed and was accepted. I am also currently undergoing selection to be a Soldier again in the Army Reserve in my spare time, away from work, hoping I can build on my managerial abilities and skills in other areas through that venture.”

Lewis goes on to say:

“The social care sector can be a shock to the system for anyone without previous experience, however, the rewards are massive. There was certainly a desire to stay in the sector, I enjoy making a difference to people’s lives on a daily basis, however small. Knowledge of what I was getting myself into was pretty important for me and helped my transition into a more office based, holistic type management role.”

Before moving into recruitment, Lewis had completed a care certificate during his time as a Support Worker, the same as Care Professionals do at Radfield. He also holds various First Aid & MAPA related certificates. By obtaining these skills, he has developed an understanding of what the Care Professionals on the ground are working with on a daily basis.

“Hopefully my interviewing, onboarding and induction skills will put me in good stead to identify good quality Care Professionals, and make their transition to Radfield as seamless as possible, understanding the challenges in recruitment in the Care sector as a whole.”

Gemma

Gemma Baugh

Job Title: Care Manager

We would like to introduce you to Gemma Baugh, Care Manager for Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury and Oswestry. Gemma is responsible for liaising with clients, families and professionals to manage care needs and staff deployment, the creation and management of the rotas for clients and carers, and fundamentally, the safe running of the office.

Gemma explains her path to Care Manager:

“I am a mother of 6 children, all of which are home-educated, and I previously worked as a vending operator filling the machines in hospitals and HMRC offices. I left to take care of my Nan who moved in with me when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. When my Nan passed away, I went into domiciliary care as I wanted to provide care for people’s loved ones as I did with my Nan. I then moved from Telford to Shrewsbury, where I applied to Radfield to be a Care Professional. I have made some great relationships with both the clients and the other Radfield colleagues. Things really took off from there, and I have had the opportunity to work in our branch office, as the Care Coordinator. And recently I have been fortunate to be appointed as the Care Manager, and all the while, undertaking my Level 5 Diploma in Health & Social Care alongside this – so there are plenty of opportunities to progress in the Social Care sector.”

Since joining Radfield as a Care Professional back in April 2022, Gemma’s experience and passion have proved so important:

“I feel I have lots of experience within the sector after working in the care sector for some time both personally with my Nan and with a company like Radfield. I’ve been fortunate to be able to work with a wide range of clients and care professionals, understanding their needs, and trying to build fulfilling relationships to ensure the best care for our people.

I have a passion for giving people the best quality of life they can have to be able to live an in-depth, independent life how they want to, especially after having family members go through difficult times and having some unprofessional experiences with other agencies. I always aim for continuity when coordinating our care, maximising our time with our clients and minimising our travel and waiting times.”
