Formally known as TLC Homecare, Choices Homecare's motto is 'skilled care your way', which is a philosophy they look to bring to older and vulnerable adults throughout South and West Yorkshire. They are proud to support people to live in their own homes for longer and can provide a full range of homecare services.

Their 'Values' are embedded throughout the Organisation to ensure they reflect their Vision (...to deliver a service to be proud of, and that they are able to deliver the best quality of care that they can for all of their service users.

They offer a person centred approach to a wide range of care needs (offering support with: personal care, meal preparation, medication assistance, home respite/safety check visits or sitting services whilst family go out, assisting service users to go out into the community, shopping, light domestic help and more). My dad's home care recently changed to TLC Homecare Ltd. This really hasn't affected my dad as he still receives the same care as he did before and the same 2 lovely carers still call at dad's which helps a lot as dad is blind and knows the two regular carers very well now. Overall very happy with the
change and no problems at all.

My carers attend three times a day. Dinner, tea-time and breakfast. They are very efficient and see to my every need. I consider myself very lucky to have such caring persons.

Some staff could do with retraining i.e do not wash pots properly, never dry. After shower, do not clean, dry bath or remove bath mat. In the past, blocked the toilet with wet wipes and toilet roll wrap. In addition, the care timing is not consistent.

They do their job as best they can, which is not easy sometimes due to long hours and short staff etc. It can be stressful for both parties. Losing one's independence is very hard to accept, so staff may get a bit of abuse occasionally and unintentionally from clients. Staff must expect this and cope
with understanding (age factor etc). Excellent works of staff.

I have mostly been pleased with the care my husband receives. His regular carer is excellent, friendly, quiet, pleasant and efficient in bathing and showing dignity for my husband.
She is nearly always on time (within 5 minutes or so) on her days off I'm not quite so pleased as they are sometimes late
and they vary as to who comes.

Reply from Elaine Bradley-Smith, Employee Engagement & Communications Officer at Choices Homecare (Barnsley)

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review, we appreciate all feedback received (both positive and negative) in order to assist us in improving our services further in the future. We can see that the feedback received is mainly positive and can confirm we always strive to deliver calls within the time allowances set by local authorities, as well as ensure a regular team of care workers attend our service users to support continuity of care. However, from time to time, we may need to send a different care worker when a regular care worker is on annual leave, has a day off or is sick. In which case we do our very best to ensure calls take place as close to the regular time as is possible and ask our care workers to ensure they read the care plan within the service users property upon every visit to ensure they are up to date with a service users' needs. We always encourage our service users to get in touch with their local office if ever there is anything they would like to discuss, in order for us to be able to resolve any issues promptly. Thanks again for letting us have your feedback, we really appreciate all comments received. Thank you.

I feel so much better about my mum living at home now that we have carers 4 times a day. Mum has dementia, heart problems and poor mobility. Her carers provide her daily personal care and meals but it's so much more than that. They communicate between each other and with me to ensure continuity and
that issues are flagged up (even that a light bulb had gone out). They make her laugh and treat her so well. She looks forward to them coming. I can't thank them enough.

The carers work very well and with a smile on their faces but they seem to be in a hurry. Morning call is 15mins, the two calls during the day only 3mins, in the evening about 10mins. I do not know what the correct times should be.

Reply from Elaine Bradley-Smith, Employee Engagement & Communications Officer at Choices Homecare (Barnsley)

We appreciate all feedback received and use both positive and negative feedback to help us improve our services even further. You provided us with some really lovely feedback relating to our care workers ‘working very well with a smile on their faces’. This was great to hear and will be passed on to the care workers involved to ensure they receive acknowledgement of all their hard work.
I’m sorry you feel that visits are rushed. Care workers are paid for travel time between visits so you should never feel that your service is being rushed. We will review your visits and the care workers' rounds to ensure there is sufficient time allocated to meet your needs and for care workers to travel between visits.
We thank you sincerely for taking the time to provide your feedback, please do not hesitate to get in touch if there’s anything else you’d like to discuss in the future, we will be more than happy to try and help.

I would like to say thank you to all the people from TLC Rotherham who looked after me when I was recovering from my hip replacement operation, with a special mention to my carer, she is a star and I miss her. I didn't realise she would be stopped so abruptly and regret not having had the chance to
say goodbye.

Reply from Elaine Bradley-Smith, Employee Engagement & Communications Officer at Choices Homecare (Barnsley)

We really appreciate your comments and take all feedback (both positive and negative) very seriously, to help us continue to improve our services even further in the future. Thank you for the fabulous feedback you gave, your comments will be fed back to the care worker who provided your service accordingly. We do take on board the comments you made around your service ending abruptly, however, due to the nature of them, we are asked to end some shorter term packages of care almost as quickly as they began (such as where we are asked to provide support whilst someone recovers from an illness for example), and therefore receive no prior notice ourselves. Please rest assured that moving forwards, where this may be the case, we will do our best to ensure that our service users expectations are set accordingly. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I'm Carol and I manage the Dearne area, Darfield, Wombwell, Royston and Athersley. I started as a care worker in 1998 at Christmas to earn a bit of extra cash for the kid's Christmas presents, This was supposed to be temporary and that was 25 years ago. Along the way, I somehow landed a care coordinator role without ever realising it in 2003 and have been with the exact same company all these years. Over that time I have had a lot of mums work in my area and now some of their children work for me. I am committed and love to help where I can.

I love my family and pets and always enjoy spending good quality time with them.

I never thought of ever getting into care work until the horrible COVID-19 struck and I couldn't do my previous job. I felt grounded and needed to get out of the house. I then saw a job for home care and thought I'd give that a go! I fell in love with care so much that I gave my other job up and became a team leader, due to hard work, dedication and great transferable skills I became a care coordinator. I joined TLC due to the positive things I had heard and the career progression that is offered. Since starting I have never looked back and can't wait to see where this journey will take me.

In my spare time, I love spending time with my beautiful little boy and husband.
