We have no complaints to make so far. Over the past couple of years, Home Instead Senior Care (Southampton) has been exemplary. The care/companion they match to my mother has become a good friend to her. Thank you Home Instead Senior Care (Southampton), you have given me some piece of mind.

We have been having Home Instead to visit Dad for a year now.
He has dementia but is very independent and managing in his own home.
They visit at lunchtimes to cook for him.
The carers are very caring, keep me informed of any concerns and take marvellous care of Dad. He looks forward to seeing them.
I
would recommend the company to anyone considering care for their loved ones.

Always punctual and in no hurry to finish. Carer always introduced before visit. Perfect language and understood. Routine visits from the manager to check carer attendance and care and that clients care needs to change, drugs okay etc.

Excellent service from the two carers who visit my parents weekday afternoons. Both ladies are lovely, very accommodating and will do whatever is asked of them. Shopping, bed making, laundry, ironing, cleaning, taking my dad to GP appointments or hairdressers. They also help do paperwork, such as choosing
the following week's meals on wheels menus and Christmas card writing. We couldn't do without them. They are like part of the family. And the office supervisor visits every three months to ensure the care plan is updated and that all is going well. Far superior to any other agency in the area. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to review our service and for your kind words. I will share this with the two CAREGivers who support your parents, who I am sure feel part of the family as well.

I am so impressed with the professionalism of the managers, the flexibility and responsiveness of the service and the standard of care provided by the caregivers who visit my mother. If anyone involved has any concerns it will be reported and I am contacted. And my mother really appreciates being
taken to the regular memory cafe. I would not hesitate to recommend Home Instead Southampton to anyone thinking about finding care for themselves or a loved one.

It is a privilege to serve your mother who I know loves her visits to the Memory cafe. Thank you again.

Friendly service. Listens to the needs of my mother but unable to fulfil her needs due to her stubborn nature. However, I feel the care team could be more proactive in convincing her to allow them to keep her flat clean and tidy plus respond more to her hygiene needs. My mother pays most of her bill,
very little from social services, not getting value for money.

Reply from Graeme Cann, Director at Home Instead (Southampton)

Thank you for your review and for the time you gave me over the phone. I am so pleased to hear that your mum values her CAREGiver's visits so much and that we are making progress. More work to do of course and I will be following matters over the coming months to see if we can achieve the outcomes you suggest. Thank you again.

We as a family, find the agency extremely helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Mother has the best care/help. The 3 ladies which go in to help mother are really good to her, always ready for a chat, answer any questions she may have and know when she is covering something up. They are quick to contact
me if they think there may be a problem.
Fantastic service.

I changed my dad's care agency to Home Instead in January 2016 and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. From day 1 my dad was treated with respect and kindness. Meetings were arranged to sort out the hours needed and to see which carers would best suit my dad. As my 95-year-old dad had dementia,
it was difficult but he was included in all meetings and his opinion was asked for. When the carers started they treated my dad with kindness and he soon regarded them as friends. They did all they could to make him feel happy and safe. As for myself, I was contacted immediately if they felt he needed medical help. As I lived quite a distance from my dad it was a comfort to me to know he was being well looked after and when I visited once a week it was immediately obvious that the carers were indeed caring people. Sadly my dad died at the end of November but I know during his last few months he felt happy, safe and knew his carers would come when they said they would.

My husband has been receiving support from Home Instead for about 18 months. During this time the carer has always shown patience and understanding, becoming a good companion whose visits are much appreciated bu us both. When I have had contact with the office staff they have all been very friendly

Listened when initial carer match wasn't suitable. The replacement was excellent getting on with both my husband and myself. Not only was she an excellent carer but she took time to see that I was okay and help if she could. When my husbands needs increased she responded over and above what I would
have expected. Her shadow was also kind, caring and gentle. The manager listened and helped too, explained lots of detail to me.

I was recommended to Home Instead by the manager of the independent supported living complex, where my mother lives and I am very grateful for the recommendation. Initially I wanted personal care twice a week and was concerned that I did not want a variety of people turning up and that it should be
someone who would be able to treat my mother with dignity and build a relationship. We have got exactly that. Over the months she has required more care. The girls have been, without exception, lovely, caring people and my mother enjoys their visits and looks forward to them coming. The management staff are friendly and efficient and always keep me well informed. I would highly recommend them.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.908 for Home Instead (Southampton) is calculated as follows: ( (129 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 141 Ratings = 4.908

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Home Care Provider does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Head of Client Experience & Registered Manager

I was one of the first CAREGivers to join the Southampton office in July 2010. I was looking for a part-time job to enable me to integrate back into employment after spending the last ten years raising my three children. I had busied myself within the community as a Parish Councillor and I was also Editor of the local quarterly publication. CAREGiving sounded like the perfect job. I loved visiting the clients I was matched to and I became very attached to them.

The opportunity arose to apply for a full-time position in the office in May 2011. I have partaken in all the office roles over the years as we have grown and even qualified as a trainer along the way. I have worked with some talented people here at Home Instead and learnt so much from them – I am grateful to them all.

My passion is taking all the care enquiries, I listen and empathise with the situation because I totally understand how complex it can be sometimes, reaching a decision about what to do next to allow a loved one to stay safe and happy at home. I cannot describe how amazing it is to meet up after speaking on the phone and offering reassurance whilst knowing in my heart we do what we say we do.

We had a vacancy here for my current position and I was asked by Mike and Greg, our owners, to consider the role. The rest of the team encouraged me to take it and as I had such support I accepted – thank you, team! I am happy I did because I now have more opportunities to grow the business so we can help even more people to stay living well in their own homes.

I would urge anyone to become a CAREGiver if they have any spare time on their hands because I cannot describe the incredible feeling that making a difference gives you. Our training is bespoke and fantastic and looks at the opportunities it has given me!

I feel passionate about the Home Instead ethos and I know that matching CAREGivers to Clients in the ‘Home Instead Way’ is still unique. It is what drew me to work for Home Instead and continues to do so every year that passes!

Job Title: Recruitment Manager

I joined Home Instead in April 2013 and am responsible for CAREGiver recruitment.

I have over 30 years of experience in recruitment and obtained my qualifications with the REC of which I am a Fellow. I also have an NVQ 4 in Management and a Certificate in Personnel Practice.

Before joining Home Instead I worked for 11 years within the Health and Social Care sector as a Registered Manager. During this time I also managed a Specialist Nurses Division, recruiting Theatre Nurses, Prison Nurses, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Health Nurses and Learning Disability Nurses.

My experiences working within the healthcare sector have definitely been the most fulfilling. I am passionate about helping older people retain their independence and dignity and remain safely in their own homes. Selecting the right people to join our family of CAREGivers keeps me extremely busy but it is always interesting meeting new people and offering them the opportunity to join us and make a real difference to older people. I watch them grow in confidence and hear about the relationships they have with our clients and it makes me really proud of my role, connecting people and making them feel good.

I also help out at the memory cafe we run every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. This makes a change to being in the office but also gives me a chance to meet people who are coping with dementia and I try to brighten up their day if I can.

I get to meet and greet everyone who comes to our lovely office, so there is really never a dull moment in my working day. I share Home Instead's values and ethos and I know being part of the team, we all work hard to make all the difference we can.

I started my career in childcare, where has looked after and babysat my younger family members, which was a natural fit for my caring and compassionate nature. After a few years in the retail industry, I decided that I really missed the caring industry and was fortunate enough to join Home Instead in 2012. Having never worked in elderly care before this was an exciting step for me.

Over the past 6 years as a CAREgiver at Home Instead, I've loved supporting my clients! My clients have had a range of needs from living with Dementia & Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Palliative Care to companionship visits where I've accompanied them to appointments and shopping trips.

Helping clients to live as independently as possible within their own homes is so important to me and it's very rewarding knowing that you've made a difference in their lives and helped to enable this.

In my role as a Field Care Manager, I am excited to be able to look after our existing clients and also to meet and welcome our new clients to our lovely Home Instead family!
