Home Instead specialises in providing companionship based support to adults of all ages. Staff help you maintain your independence and quality of life. All in the home you love.

Home Instead is owned and operated by a local couple, Andrew and Joanna Senew. Their goal is to become the most admired care company in Edinburgh by changing the face of ageing.

They tailor the services they provide to you to ensure they help you achieve what's important to you. Services fall into the following categories:

•        Companionship
•        Home Help
•        Specialist Dementia Care
•        Overnight Sleepovers
•        Respite & Convalescence Support
•        Personal Care

Care workers don't just help you in your home. They can accompany you to appointments and on visits to your favourite places.

Being an independent care provider, this lets them offer you the flexibility and time to do things the way you like without being rushed.

Many clients use their self directed support / direct payments to help fund the cost of services.

All CAREGivers are selected for their caring and compassionate natures. They run extensive background checks on them all. Then develop their caring skills through market leading training. This includes City & Guilds accredited dementia care training programme.

Your care person keeps my wife safe, and entertained by chat and she has taken her to the hairdresser allowing me time as a volunteer boat repairer.

Reply from Andrew Senew, Owner at Home Instead (Edinburgh)

It's great to hear how both of you and the boats are all benefiting from our visits!

Home Instead (Edinburgh) has given support for 6 years, we always have had a wonderful service from them and lovely care givers. The price is the only reason we can't ask for more hours.
Very reliable and always keen to know if we're happy.

My Godmother has been receiving companionship from Home Instead for some months now. She has recently been officially diagnosed as being the moderate phase Alzheimers. The care has been excellent. My Godmother likes and enjoys her time with the Caregiver. When circumstances change or advice needed the
Home Instead staff are efficient and there is good two way communication.

Reply from Andrew Senew, Owner at Home Instead (Edinburgh)

Indeed! Our service isn't just about the time we spend visiting. Thanks for letting us know how much you appreciate the advice our office team offer.

My mother and I have been really pleased with the service provided by Home Instead (Edinburgh) without which she wouldn't have been able to stay at home. She has 2 regular carers and very much looks forward to their visits which, in addition to the invaluable practical help given, benefit her mental
well-being hugely. The carers are excellent, showing sensitivity to my mother’s needs and always treating her with dignity and compassion.
If you are looking for a care provider in the Edinburgh area check out Home Instead - highly recommended!

My wife moved into a care home at fairly short notice in January 2023 and with the family all away I missed having someone to talk to very much. However, our carer who had been with us for a few months was able to spend a proportion of her time in conversation which I found a great help, particularly
as she was very well informed on a large number of subjects. I look forward to her visits every week. Sometimes it is necessary to have alternative carers who have all been excellent in every way. If an alternative is required the office always gives as much notice as possible and also if the carer is held up by traffic problems or other causes they will always try to let me know.

All staff have been professional, helpful, kind and courteous with a sense of humour. In a quick time our carer has become a very welcome part of our household. No request is too much trouble. Any changes to the service are promptly notified to us and reasonable alternatives suggested.

Home Instead (Edinburgh) has been providing services for my mother for over a year now I think, I can't really remember as it has just become part of our weekly routine. Communication with the admin staff in the office is excellent and I appreciate the updates and opportunities to talk about how things
are going on a regular basis. We appreciate the outings and the shopping that my mother is now able to do more independently with the help of a Home Instead carer and her general wellbeing and mood has improved over the last few months. It gives us peace of mind knowing that my mother is being supported by a professional during the week so that she is able to enjoy her visits with her great-grandson at the weekends. Thank you.

Reply from Andrew Senew, Owner at Home Instead (Edinburgh)

To read Mum's general wellbeing and mood have improved is just amazing! Thanks for your feedback.

Generally, we have been pleased with the carers my mum has been given, although unfortunately since setting up her daily care last summer we have now had over seven different carers coming in and out of my mother's life at various times, which for someone living with dementia has been hard. Most of
the carers have in themselves been professional, kind and sensitive and I guess it's a sign of the times that carers move on and continuity is difficult. Sometimes communication has been difficult too with occasionally unexpected changes being made.
However, that all said we know we have good care in place for our mum at a difficult time in all our lives.

Reply from Andrew Senew, Owner at Home Instead (Edinburgh)

Thanks for your feedback. Caregiver matching and continuity really are two of our top priorities. Many of our caregivers have been with us for several years, consistently visiting their clients. We're sorry this hasn't been your experience and we'll keep doing our best to get this right for you. Unfortunately, in some areas - particularly City Centre - this is more difficult to do. Despite this, we're pleased to see your ratings for 'Dignity' and 'Care' are strong. Thank you.

Review doesn’t particularly relate to March but to the service over the last year or whenever you last did a review.
Weekly visits to my aunt are much appreciated as I live in Lincolnshire so am not able to give her regular support. Her home care visitor is able to shop for her small needs, not much
as she is in a care home. The weekly visit is important for her outside social contact. My aunt enjoys being taken out in her wheelchair. The weekly visit helps to give a routine.

Reply from Andrew Senew, Owner at Home Instead (Edinburgh)

Thanks for your review and letting us know how much you both value the social contact we are able to give.

I could not expect anything more from my excellent carer. As well as being extremely efficient at her job, I find her very good company and calm under stress, i.e. when caught in traffic jams (which happened once for 2 hours).
I am very grateful for the care and attention she gives me.

My care over the past year has generally been excellent. There have been a few teething problems at weekends due to staff availability, but the office has been helpful in ironing these out generally. However, with personal care required seven days a week, it has meant that by the weekend, any housework
needed has had to be done, and two hours are too long on Saturday and Sunday and expensive.

Reply from Andrew Senew, Owner at Home Instead (Edinburgh)

Thanks for your wonderful feedback and for letting us know about the teething problems we were able to resolve. I'll ask one of our team to get in touch to discuss how we can make sure you get good value from your weekend visits.

Home Instead provides four hours a week, companionship care for my uncle and the service has been fantastic.

We have been using Home Instead for my aunt for over 2 years and have been very happy with the care she has received. This has increased over time and all of the care givers that go in have been fantastic. Her family live a long distance from her and it has been invaluable to know that she is well-supported.
The team has been very good at keeping in contact with us and also in responding to requests that we have made. Thank you so much.

Reply from Andrew Senew, Owner at Home Instead (Edinburgh)

Distance tends to add complexities to caring for a loved one, so we're pleased the service is working well and giving you reassurance.

I'm sure you will be happy to hear that we have nothing but positive feedback for you.
Carer is absolutely fantastic and my Dad always looks forward to her visits. The positive effect her visits have on my Dad's mental well-being is immeasurable. She always goes above and beyond, and nothing is too
much trouble for her. We (and you as a company) are so lucky to have her!
Also, every time we have the need to make contact with Home Instead as a company, the prompt service and responses are always first class.

Reply from Andrew Senew, Owner at Home Instead (Edinburgh)

Thanks for your wonderful feedback - yes, we're so lucky to have her and all the other fabulous caregivers on our team.

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.775 for Home Instead (Edinburgh) is calculated as follows: ( (282 Excellents x 5) + (53 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 347 Ratings = 4.775

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Home Care Provider does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
