Bluebird provided home carers for my wife in the brief period when she became very ill before going into hospice. The company was easy and straightforward to deal with in organisational and financial terms, and the carers themselves were good, dedicated people, always on time and very caring and conscientious
in their work.

My husband has dementia. Over a period of a little more than a year, as his needs increased, we went from having one afternoon of companion care a week to four afternoons. I felt wholly confident that the Bluebird Care team would make sure that any booking was honoured and this confidence was justified.
We much appreciated the support and care provided by all the carers who came to us, who seemed to have been handpicked to be able to get on my husband's wavelength. The quality of care received contributed to my husband being able to stay at home for longer than expected. I'm sorry that the review guidelines prevent me from naming individuals, but I hope they will know who they are, especially one member of staff, in particular, who came once a week for over a year, latterly more often, and another member of staff. Thank you both for making this horrible journey with dementia that bit easier for my husband and me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a wonderful review. I know that your husband's whole team see caring for him as a privilege and whilst they cannot be mentioned by name here, I will ensure that everyone involved in supporting him is made aware of your comments. With our kindest regards.

On the whole, the care assistants are nice people with whom, as a client, one can engage with. However, a concern is their capacity to ask questions of the client that would make their job easier and higher standards achieved.

We started using Bluebird Care in April, after a bad experience with a different agency. Well, a month and a half in, we have seen such a difference in everything. My dad, his home, the interaction between him and the lovely ladies who look after him. He has Alzheimer's and as we don't live close by,
it's been a worrying time but we all feel a little less anxious about it now. Bluebird has really helped ease the load. We feel confident with the care he's receiving now. Everything has been easy, from our first meeting with the care manager, who actually took the time to speak to my dad, to the payments team, who were kind and helpful, to the wonderful staff in the office, who I know have the patience of saints, to the carers themselves, who do the toughest job. We couldn't be happier.

We have always had good staff looking after my mother which has assisted my mother in attaining a quality of life we all required as a family. Being fortunate to have good carers for four years since my mother's care plan started, it has given everyone a comfort factor that was certainly welcomed.

My experience with Bluebird Care over these last three years has been a positive one. As I do not live near my aunt, I am informed regularly of what is happening and if any problems occur, the Bluebird Care team are helpful and supportive, and together we work well, always putting the needs of my aunt
first.
Along with being professional at all times, I have also found the Bluebird team to be caring and kind.

Bluebird Care have provided companionship and light household support for my mother, who is 90 years old and suffers from problems of focus and memory, for around a year now. It was not an easy assignment for Bluebird, as mum is very proud and independent and reluctant to admit that she needs support.
So from the start, what was needed was tact and patience, all of which came plentiful! From the initial assessment, to the choice of a carer that would suit my mum's temperament, to flexibility in terms of meeting our needs, in good and not so good times, Bluebird, have always got it just right. Not just a professional service, but a kind and caring one too.

My experience with Bluebird Care has extended over eight months of personal home care. During this time I have been satisfied with all aspects of my care. When a problem arose with a relief carer, the manager dealt with the situation swiftly and competently. I would recommend this agency to friends
and neighbours without hesitation.

Bluebird Care provided carers for 2 stages of my dad's care requirements. The first for 2 periods of 2 hours each per day and then later when he needed extra continuous 24-hour live-in care. In both instances, their focus was on delivering the care that was needed working alongside other NHS and St
Christopher's Hospice to deliver an overall care package that met my dad's needs.
Eventually, my dad's cancer had impacts that first made him housebound and later bed-bound needing full care including feeding, washing and sanitation. The care provided adapted to deliver what was needed with attention to sustaining movement and trips out in early stages and then comfort and personal service later.
Before he died my dad loved his live-in carer provided by Bluebird.
When I go I will hope to get this care that Bluebird provided for my dad!

Bluebird Care has been providing extensive care to my friend for the last year after she came out of hospital totally bedbound and unable to do anything for herself. The care and compassion shown by the carers were excellent, I cannot thank them enough for the way they looked after her. I know she was
extremely grateful as was I, it put my mind at rest that she was being treated so well during a very difficult time in her life. Sadly, she has recently passed but right up until the last moment, they loved and cared for her. The office team bent over backwards if I ever needed to contact them, one of the most important aspects was the continuity of care; they tried, where possible, to keep the same carers visiting her and on the very odd occasion, they had to change they always informed me. The whole team, office and carers alike have been a great help to me in coming to terms with my friend's passing, I cannot thank them enough.

The agency administration systems are very sound and are backed up by good office and coordinating staff. The carers are very good, and if not, there is quick remedial action. Clients’ relatives etc can use a phone app to track in real-time what the carers are reporting on, this is very reassuring.
Similarly, the use of PPE is sound. I would prefer to care for my mum myself, but cannot; in such circumstances, I have found Bluebird a reliable substitute.

Where to even start with how brilliant, professional and life-saving Bluebird have been? My elderly father came out of hospital a month ago, very frail and with a lengthy rehabilitation ahead of him. We had some incredibly traumatic experiences with the NHS designated carers (poor/dangerous training,
unreliable) but fortunately, we had also set up a visiting care timetable with Bluebird. The carers came to our rescue many times when we were left high and dry and needed Bluebird carers to step in last minute, and responded to our distress/worries with empathy, efficiency and flexibility. The Bluebird carers themselves have all been well trained, experienced, friendly, respectful and conscientious as well as being lovely to spend time with! As we move forward with my dad's rehabilitation it is so good to know there is a top-notch local care agency just a phone call away. Thank you so much to everyone at Bluebird - we are truly grateful!

I have been extremely fortunate to be matched with two pleasant ladies who carry out their duties in a professional way.
Duties include household chores, general cleaning, vacuuming, laundry and pharmacy. They are reliable willing and helpful turn up on time do whatever is asked of them and keen to
ask if they should do jobs when I forget to mention them. I am happy with them and will have them again if needed.

I am very impressed with the care given to my mum over the last year. Bluebird Care have been very flexible and responsive to changing needs, and I feel very confident that Mum is being looked after well. Communication with the agency is very good. They have also provided consistent care people, and
this is really important for Mum as she has been very resistant to having anyone coming into her home. Now I think she values the relationships she has made. I can sleep easier at night! I would have no hesitation in recommending Bluebird - they have been fabulous.

Good company with informative emails regarding rotas and bills etc. The manager keeps in contact and has good carers. The only bad point is charging double on bank holidays!
PS. hope the staff get double on those days but doubt it!

Reply from Karina Corden, Owner at Bluebird Care Clapham & Streatham

Thank you so much indeed for your kind review. It is much appreciated by all our team and we will ensure that your words are passed on to all concerned. Regarding your comments about us charging (just under) double on Bank Holidays, I am very proud to reassure you that the only reason we do this is so that we can pay our carers double on those days (which is actually slightly more than we charge!) so yes, they do indeed receive it! We are one of the very few care organisations who make very sure - and always have done - that we look after our carers as much as we do our customers and we pay them above the London Living Wage because we think they are worth it! We genuinely look after our team and try and pay them as much, rather than as little, as we can afford. With kindest regards

My cousin fell down the stairs recently and, after a period in hospital, required support to be able to live at home. Whilst the Social Services provided some help we naturally turned to Bluebird who had been providing cleaning and shopping before the accident. They were marvellous providing additional
care and assistance the day we asked for it. They provided someone who is kind, considerate and very helpful and who seems to genuinely care about my cousin. The office staff are equally kind and considerate, doing all they can to support my cousin (they are currently organising a stairlift for her). They have been excellent at keeping me advised of what is happening and have been able to offer me some very useful advice and support. I am very impressed at the friendliness that I have found from everyone at Bluebird, it is almost as if they are part of the family. They have also provided fantastic care to my cousin's husband, who sadly died last year. I can't praise them highly enough.

I have been delighted with the quality of care that my aunt receives. She has Alzheimer's and is dealt with with dignity and consideration. My Aunt has built up a trusting relationship with her carers and looks forward to their visits. They have dealt with any issues arising in a friendly and professional
way. In addition to the front line care, I have also been impressed with the understanding and flexibility of office staff and management when any issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently.

I’m sure like most people I had no experience of ‘home care’ until my dad George, whom I adored, became seriously ill. I’d always believed him to be invincible and it was a complete shock to me to find out he was a mere mortal like the rest of us… and so began a very emotional journey with some good and not so good care along the way and sadly for our family, no happy ending.

I experienced for myself the huge impact care from a stranger has, not only on the person receiving the support but the wider family too. And so I decided to stand up and be counted and that’s where Bluebird Care Wandsworth was born in 2011. My background lent itself perfectly to the skills I needed to establish an organization that could make a positive difference to others who live in the same community as me.

Rated by CQC as 'Outstanding' for Leadership and widely regarded in Wandsworth as the Marks & Spencer of care, expanding our ‘care family’ in 2017 to cover our neighbouring Borough of Lambeth was a natural progression in our ongoing journey. It’s unbelievably rewarding to spend each day making someone else’s and to have a team working for me who share the same values and standards.

Our care is different. It goes far beyond companionship and ticking off tasks. We are determined to give our customers the very best care at home available - the sort of care I wanted for my dad. We spend an enormous amount of time and attention in selecting the right people to join our team. Those who make the grade are trained to standards that exceed those of any other home care company in the area. They receive continuous training and development to make sure they meet the most exacting standards and offer the most effective care. We help our customers face many health challenges including all kinds of dementia, stroke, brain injury, MND, MS and Parkinson's among a full range of neurological conditions.

We are part of the nationally renowned Bluebird Care, the country’s market leader and foremost provider of private care-at-home.

This means that whilst my team is local, with the all-important ‘local’ company feel and friendly personal service, we benefit from the support structure of a respected and award-winning national organization with systems in place to ensure unparalleled standards of care – something a smaller individual local business couldn’t hope to match.

A mum with 2 young daughters I initially joined the team as a part-time administrator and then from there I was head of recruitment. I’ve grown with this family company as my girls have grown up and I am now a full-time Business Manager.

I’m still very much involved with our wonderful carers – many of whom have been with us for many years now– and I love seeing the journey they each take from the day they start working for us.

I am also the person who speaks to those enquiring about our service, a role I take incredibly seriously.

I was once that person not knowing where to start and needed help for my own mum and I know just how scary and confusing the whole process can be. I don’t want anyone to feel as overwhelmed as I did and so it’s a very personal thing for me that I give the very best advice I can.

It’s a privilege to do what I do.

Like many people, I switched my career to Health & Social Care after a member of my family had a very poor experience. In this case, it was my grandparent who was in a care home. My initial career started in solar energy design back home in Yorkshire but now I couldn't imagine working in any other sector.

I moved to London with my partner and joined a small complex care company initially as a Field Care Supervisor and then Area Care Manager. By studying independently at the same time, I ultimately achieved my goal to become a Registered Care Manager.

I feel lucky to have supported the people we care for across all levels from delivering care myself to operational management. This has given me a huge insight and appreciation for the hard work our carers carry out on a daily basis, and the support our customers need to remain comfortable and safe in their own homes.

It’s a privilege to lead such a successful and dedicated team and to share in our fantastic reputation for care as it should be.

I decided to become a professional carer over ten years ago now, having looked after my father who was very ill.

Because of my background, when I left school I knew that caring for others professionally was the right career choice for me.

I was initially a Health Care Assistant for Bupa Care Homes. I learned so much and quickly developed a real passion for caring for the most vulnerable in our communities. Because of this, I moved to The Royal Hospital Chelsea. I loved my time there and I’m so proud to have looked after our veterans too who we owe so much.

Whilst residential care homes work for some residents, so many of them don’t want to be there and I became evermore convinced that everyone should have the opportunity to remain in their own home and so I applied to Bluebird Care.

Initially a Care Assistant, I was promoted to Customer Supervisor. Shortly afterwards I was promoted again to Customer Services Manager which has been my proudest role to date. I love being a part of the Bluebird family and feel so happy to be making such a difference and keeping our Customers where they want to be – home!

I worked as a Carer for Bluebird care for almost 3 years. Initially, it was so daunting. I was terrified about whether I’d be good enough as I’d never worked with older people other than my own Gran. I remember Dana reassuring me at my interview " but you care for your children which is a great starting point."

At training, I realised the extent and scope of caring which was far more complex and important than I had ever imagined.

Having passed my training, my first day was with a Customer who was blind. When they praised me for my presence and said “You're doing a good job”, it was the biggest medal of encouragement.

Every day I went home knowing someone was happier, safer, cleaner, watered, and fed by me and nothing has ever been so rewarding other than the birth of my children. Previously, I was a Manager of five betting shops for 16yrs and felt proud I could provide for my children, but now I'm just simply proud of myself!

Job Title: Recruitment Manager

Working for Bluebird Care, I realised immediately that looking for Care Assistants was a much more personal experience than I had had before in my career.

While I am familiar with the reality of having someone you love looking after by less than committed strangers, I now have the opportunity to make a difference in this for other people.

Becoming a Care Assistant is not something that only training can create. Finding the wonderful people, who have the natural warmth, empathy and initiative to provide the support, encouragement and care that makes the difference to each individual, is challenging and intense.

I am usually the first contact and so I get to know every carer who comes to us individually. Our Care Manager conducts the second interview and then each successful person is invited to join us to train as if we were choosing for someone personally important to us.

I support the new carers during training and watch them become respected and vital members of our team. Training is ongoing and most visit the office often, sometimes for updates and sometimes just to chat in the warm, friendly atmosphere of the office.

It gives me an enormous boost that I have a part to play in enabling people to remain at home in familiar surroundings in a dignified way. That the ladies and gentlemen that I first chatted to by phone, email and at recruitment events are making such a difference to so many people’s lives.

Outside of work, I’m a busy wife and mum, spending much of my time supporting my two beautiful daughters with their sport, dancing and singing. My own interests include travelling, dancing, listening to music, reading and cooking!

I love being around family and friends and I include my work colleagues in that! I feel very lucky; I have a wonderful family and a great job.
