I contacted Helping Hands in late March to arrange weekday carer support for my sister-in-law, from April onward. My Helping Hands contact, was extremely helpful during a difficult time (COVID-19) and really handled everything very efficiently and, although I had my doubts as to whether she could deliver
within the short time specified, she did so and we were up and running by early April. My sister-in-law, 89, suffers with dementia, was really against having carer support, believing she could do everything herself, however overtime she has come to accept what they do and really enjoys their twice-daily visits. I've had only limited exposure to the actual carers, as I don't live locally, the one's that I have met have been very personable and receptive to comments. They appear to be quite flexible in terms of jobs in the house, providing shopping needs or just to sit with my sister-in-law and chat. We now have weekend support as well which was organised with great efficiency.

Cannot comment on their level of care but after leaving several messages with staff for someone to call me back as it was important to sort my mother's care out, I could still be waiting for a call back. Instead I have given up on this company as if they cannot do a simple thing like call me back, how
can I trust them to care for my Mother?

Job Title: Branch Care Manager

About me

Hi, I'm Jade. As a Branch Manager for Helping Hands, I'm here to ensure the wonderful families we care for in the local area all have the support they need to live comfortably and independently in their own homes. I am also here to ensure that my Care Staff are happy and well looked after in their roles, that they feel valued and wanted as part of our team.

I live in the Colchester area, but I grew up in Chelmsford so I know the area well.

I started in care 10 years ago after helping my husband to care for his elderly Uncle whilst he was receiving Palliative Support.

I started as a Carer, before moving into the office as an On-Call Coordinator, Care Coordinator and now Branch Manager. Before working in Care, I worked for the Post Office as a Customer Services Clerk. I currently have an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, I am taking my Level 5 and take all training very seriously.

Experience and expertise

Since becoming a Branch Manager, I've had the opportunity to help people with various needs and conditions.
I've assisted people affected by mental health conditions, dementia and physical conditions. It's always important that our customers feel comfortable and I really enjoy being involved in helping them to live at home for as long as possible. In addition, I've cared for people with complex care needs and those requiring end-of-life support.
I've had some very fond memories and valuable experiences, and it's hugely rewarding when I know that I've contributed to helping a family in need.
I've also become a Dementia Champion which has enabled me to gain a first-hand experience of what life is like living with dementia – knowledge which I’m always keen to share with my own team of carers.

Why I chose Helping Hands

I decided to join Helping Hands as I wanted to work for a care company that cared about their staff and customers, working for a family run company with real family values is amazing. Since I started here, I am proud of the difference I have made, and I fully enjoy engaging with my Carers and Customers.
