The operations manager couldn't have been more sympathetic and helpful and at extremely short notice, she arranged for my mother-in-law to have a carer come to see her for three days while we had a mini break. As we have no one else to rely on, this was an absolute Godsend.
The carer was a lovely lady
who treated my mother-in-law with great understanding and compassion.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this organisation to anyone who wants their loved one treated with dignity and respect.

Home Instead, provided much-needed care and support for our elderly mother, in a situation where we lived far away from her and relied on professional help to keep her safe. The service was amazing, the ladies who looked after mum very much became her friend's and she looked forward to their visits.
They were quick to act on concerns and anything that went wrong in the home would be addressed immediately. We can not speak highly enough of their care service and would highly recommend . They give my father and my siblings much needed peace of mind. A massive thank you to everyone who helped us.

The carer looking after my husband dealt with situations well outside of her remit. She was very pleasant with my husband and kept me informed at all times. She changed bedding and even worked out how to use an awkward matching machine.
I cannot thank her and the rest of the team enough.

My father was supported in his home here with us by Home Instead over a period of two years ending in March 2019. I chose Home Instead precisely because it rated as Outstanding and because only the best is ever good enough for my father. I can confidently say that without the help of his two exceptional
companions and their care manager, I would not have been able to sustain the level of support my father required in order to remain at home with us. The attention to detail the companions took in planning and suggesting visits and activities was exemplary and they quickly became extended family members to us and surrogate daughters to my father. The care manager's ability to respond swiftly and effectively to my father's requests and her willingness to even take on shifts herself where necessary were well beyond the call of duty. The managers are driven by compassion and professionalism and I have always found their support and empathy for my position as full-time carer of invaluable help.

We, as a family, are so grateful to Home Instead Durham for the help in looking after my father who has Alzheimer's. We recently went to a family wedding overseas and left Dad with 24-hour care for 5 days in his home, we came back to a happy and content Dad which was amazing. The Caregivers are patient,
kind and professional, we are thrilled with our choice. Home Instead used the same caregivers that Dad has every morning which was amazing as they know him and are fantastic.

We are so delighted with the service Home Instead have given us. As, without it, my mother-in-law would not be able to manage to live by herself. We have been service users now for the past 5 years but with my mother-in-law's recent diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, we were thinking this is it, she'll
need to be in a home. However, the Home Instead girls have been marvellous and stepped up to the challenge.
We now have someone going every morning and evening, they make sure tablets are taken, ablutions are done and lunch is prepared for the day. My husband and I cover tea time and then someone comes to make sure my mother-in-law gets to bed ok. This is so reassuring. As with the nature of this disease, it will be a changing picture as we go on but we are so blessed to have this great team of lovely ladies helping my mother-in-law to stay at home. Nothing seems to be a bother to them. Thank you so much.

My sister and I are absolutely delighted with Home Instead Senior Care, which we have been using for our mother for a couple of years now. We find the organisation and staff very thoughtful, responsive to our mother's needs, and completely reliable. The assessment and care planning process is very thorough,
and it has given us enormous peace of mind. Our mother has flourished with the social contact with the carers. We cannot recommend Home Instead too highly.

I cannot praise Durham, Framwellgate, Home Instead enough. Simply amazing!
They cared for Mum superbly and now do the same for Dad.
Their caring, compassionate staff are second to none: punctual, consistent, thoughtful and supportive, and go over and above.
The management team are highly efficient
& highly skilled: a well led team.
As a working person, who doesn't live close to my elderly parent: I'm reassured that Dad is in safe hands, cared for, and not socially isolated

My mother has dementia. Over the last 4 years, Home Instead Senior Care (HISC) has been helping us to provide care for mum. Initially, this entailed 2 visits a week but by 2018 mum was being visited 3 times a day and Home Instead Senior Care were doing mum’s shopping, meals, medication and helping
her to wash and dress. In 2018, mum moved into a care home. Continue to visit mum in the home 2 times a week taking her out for trips once a week. They take mum to all medical appointments. One carer visits mum each week but another 2 carers provide support as and when required. All 3 carers are highly skilled, know mum very well and care very much for her. We know that however chaotic life in the home may be, there are some constants in mum’s life and someone to keep an eye on her for us. All of this time Home Instead Senior Care have provided brilliant advice and support. They are totally reliable and trustworthy and we know that they will never ever let mum down. I don’t know what we would have done without Home Instead Senior Care!

I cannot fault the service we receive from 'Home Instead'. The ratings speak volumes, the care provision is excellent in every respect.
The insistence on providing carers with whom we are familiar is very reassuring for the patient and helps cement their relationship.
Also, the 'behind the scenes'
organisation seems to work wonderfully well. The welfare of the client is always paramount and absolutely essential for the service provider.

I could not manage without Home Instead Senior Care (Durham). Not only have they changed my mam's life, they have changed mine. I have such peace of mind that the carers will look after mam just like I would. They are so cheerful, nothing is a bother and believe me my mam can be very awkward. They think
on their feet and use common sense and initiative.

The office staff are wonderful and I know when I ring that my questions will be answered and actioned. They are professional and compassionate and run the best care company I have come across and I've used a few.

Home Instead contacted me during early November to ask for dates over the Christmas and New Year 2017 period that we would and would not be needing care for my mother. Because of rather complicated family arrangements that had to be made over the Christmas period, our information for the timetable was
provided a little late. This, however, did not seem to cause any problems, and not only did they manage to provide a timetable of cover over this period, but managed to keep it so that the carers who came in were from my mother's usual support team.

Between Christmas and New Year, my mother decided that she did not want to take part a family New Year get-together and so at short notice, we had to ask for New Year's Day care, which was quickly provided. Yet another family re-arrangement two days later meant care was also as easily and cheerfully re-organised. Delighted.

This care company went out of their way on many occasions to see that my mother was safely and comfortably looked after when the family who lived far away couldn't be with her. There was consistency with the Carers who were introduced to my mother so that familiar faces were often seen and genuine relationships
were built up revolving around trust and friendship. The carer would accompany my mother to hospital appointments and on one occasion stayed with my mother until the middle of the night while she waited to be admitted to hospital after a fall. Common sense prevailed amongst the carers and if they noticed anything amiss like medication running out or not taken the family and G.P were always informed. The carer even arranged for my mother to have an eye test and then picked up her new glasses for her. What a pity she couldn't have brought this care company with her to Oxford which is where she now lives. I would definitely recommend them to others. A big thank you.

Job Title: Owner/Director

Having worked in health and social care for more than 35 years, I am aware of how excellent care can improve the lives of those we support and ease the stress on families.

I have had personal experience of trying to get the right support for family to enable them to stay living at home, and sadly it was a very poor experience. During that time I would frequently say to friends and colleagues "there has to be a better way to provide support at home" and their response was always "you should provide home care, at least then it will be done right"

And that is why today I am the Owner and Director of Home Instead Senior Care Durham, I love the fact that I am in a position, as a business owner to be able to ensure that the care we provide is only that of the highest quality and that it is delivered with care and compassion by the wonderful Care Professionals we employ.

I was honoured and delighted in 2002 to be recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours with a British Empire Medal for my service to care and older people.

Our Care Pros and office team all have to pass my personal test which is 'would I let this person care for me or any of my family?'

I am so proud that I can now provide the type of care that I just couldn’t find for my mum, I provide care and support the way care should be provided but sadly, very often isn’t.

We provide the right care, at the right time, in the right way to meet your individual needs.

Caring is my passion, I am a very 'hands-on' Manager, I am responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the office, making sure that our quality and high standards are maintained.

At Home Instead Durham we don’t tell our client’s what they need; we take the time to find out what is required and what is important to the individual, once we know what that is, then we write bespoke care plans, tailored specifically to the individual.

I also ensure we comply with the Care Quality Commission standards.

We were rated OUTSTANDING at our last three inspections, something I am very proud of.

I have worked in the care industry for all my career, running and managing residential homes and supported living services.

I’m proud to work for a company where the person who needs the support is at the centre of the decisions and directs their own care.

I am passionate about what we are doing and I really feel like I have a new lease of life, we are just so positive this is what we want to do. Everyone deserves good care and we will only provide a service that we would want for our own family.

I am responsible for all of the CAREGivers, I interview them, ensure they are fit to work with our clients, take 6 references and carry out a police check.

I am registered with CQC who monitor the provision of care, ensuring that standards are met. I'm very proud to work for a company who has achieved the rating of OUTSTANDING from CQC three times. This is the highest rating they can award.
I have managed a variety of care settings over the last 25 years and I always take a person-centred approach to the care we deliver.
I meet new clients and their families to discuss their needs and the type of care that they would like, we work to meet the needs of the client, we don't expect our clients to fit in with current schedules, the client tells me when they would like their visits and for how long, I then write a care plan unique to the individual and match them with care pros to ensure a really good relationship is built.
