Helping Hands office staff are keen to offer appropriate care by a carer who is known to my husband and will always search for someone we agree is best for him. When carers attend they are punctual polite, efficient and friendly. We have been using Helping hands for more than 2 years now, at least twice
a week with no problems. My husband has Parkinson's enjoys their visits. His preferences are considered and he is treated respectfully.

Helping Hands are head and shoulders above other care agencies we have used previously in York. The carers' timekeeping is excellent, their commitment and conscientious attitude is exemplary and they always try their best when confronted by challenging situations. The management team are incredibly
helpful, friendly and always on hand to discuss or deal with any care queries or issues. My partner is totally dependent on their support and even during the difficult period of lockdown and shielding at home, the carers continued to keep her safe and cared for. We would not hesitate in recommending them as a care provider to friends and family.

Although the carer was lovely to Mum, her needs were not met. She was often dirty and the house untidy, especially the kitchen worktops etc.

Consistency of care mostly very good, although sometimes have to cope with unknown carers. Not always told of changes in carer or time of visit customer dislikes change of routine. Shadowing carers seem to come on inappropriate visits eg: do morning shadow then actually cover afternoon visit - which
in this case is a very different call in length and complexity. Quality of care is good, all carers are friendly and helpful.

I find that all carers are usually on time and apologies when late, either emergency or traffic. Helpful, polite, (except for odd one or two). Office staff try to accommodate your request where possible or come up with an alternative. 100% better than last care company I had, as we know what time they
are coming and when you get regular carers you can build up a rapport, which makes you feel as though you matter.

Job Title: Branch Care Manager

About me

It is my responsibility to ensure the branch is running safely and smoothly. I work closely with the Care and Training Practitioners, Care Coordinator and Recruitment Consultant. I have been in the Health and Social Care sector for over ten years and I'm extremely passionate about it. I think it's important to promote independence to our clients while supporting them to continue living in their own homes.

Experience and expertise

I have done various jobs across the sector including being a carer, an NVQ assessor, care coordinator, a deputy manager and a branch manager. I find it useful that I have worked as a carer because I can see and understand the pressures they face and how stressful the job can be.

I have my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social care and will soon be working towards my Level 5 in Leadership and Management. I also hold a TAQA (Training, Assessing and Quality Assessor).

Why I chose Helping Hands

I chose to work at Helping Hands because they treat their staff and customers with kindness. They put the individual first and strive for them to be supported at home for as long as possible.

I also love working here as they invest in personal development. They have lots of courses/webinars to go on to learn new skills and develop as a manager.
