I would not recommend Five Lamps to look after your parents or relatives. Supposedly 30-minute calls lasted as little as 3 minutes, carers visits could be as much as 15 hours apart from the last visit at night to the first visit in the morning, or as little as 1 hour from lunch to evening meals. Complaints
made about the length of visits were not responded to, requests for a copy of the care plan were not responded to and we received different answers to queries from carers and office staff. A couple of lovely carers but overall best avoided. When we cancelled the service no one even asked why we were doing so.

Reply from Dale Moody, Care Co-ordinator at Five Lamps Home Care (Eldon Street)

Good afternoon,

We are very sorry you have had this experience and apologise for this.

Your family member was on a Discharge to Assess package which is a temporary 14 day package of care until a social worker sources a permanent package of care. Unfortunately, this type of package does not have guaranteed time allocations and call times can be erratic. This is an emergency service to enable a fast discharge from hospital and this information should be communicated by the hospital discharge team. We apologise that you were not informed of the terms and conditions which apply to a discharge to assess package of care.

Our registered manager did have a conversation face to face with yourself and gave a full explanation of how this service works, and apologised that you were not made aware by the hospital team prior to discharge. Please be aware we have reported this issue to the local authority and the hospital discharge team so that in future, clients will be informed.

I can't thank the Billingham Homecare team enough for the amazing job they do taking care of my Dad, it's enabled him to continue living at home and support him to make his meals, keep the house clean and offer lovely conversation for him. The staff genuinely care about my Dad and go above and beyond
on a very regular basis, Dad was very apprehensive about having care at first, but really looks forward to their visits.
Amazing, lovely and incredibly caring staff.

My mum is a new client with the Five Lamps Billingham Care Team, who have been exceptional in their care and support for mum and the family feel we could not have asked for any better, we have had positive feedback from mum today for the care she has received from the team. Thank you.

We received rapid wraparound care from the council delivered by Five Lamps Home Care as my sister got poorly suddenly. Their care and dedication was so good and this meant a lot for our family. My sister liked them all, valuing a particular carer a lot and consistently talks about her. It made her smile
which was good to see. Carers were kind, caring and very adaptable

I would like to say the carers you have for my husband are lovely and are patient and understanding and spend time to see to him and don't just finish and go - they chat and listen to him. They are a pleasure to have in the house, I must admit, I was worried when the former agency went into administration
and his main carer left, but the new carer you filled the gap brilliantly, thank you.

We first met the Billingham team when my husband needed care following my hip replacement. They are all highly recommended by us for the kind and compassionate care they provide for my husband. They always arrive on time and we both feel very comfortable with them coming into our home. They always provide
very high standards of hygiene when providing care for my husband and always have a smile and a joke with him to put him at ease. We highly recommend the service they provide and also the administration given informing us of carers who will arrive, times and if we need to make any changes to care it is always arranged even at short notice occasionally. Thank you.

The staff themselves are great, the management, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to know what is going on. Carers not turning up isn’t acceptable. No respect or understanding of dementia patients' needs. Twice a meeting with social services had to be arranged - things change for a week, then go back
to being disorganised. Management never calls back after concerns are raised.

I cannot fault the care provided to Dad by Five Lamps. Visits were always on time (+/- 15 minutes) - which was something sadly lacking with his previous carers - and every week he received a 'timetable' in the post confirming who was coming and when, along with their photographs. As far as possible
his team was kept to the same small group of carers, who treated him with kindness and dignity throughout. He genuinely liked every one of them, and they made him feel safe and cared for. Notes were uploaded onto an app in real-time, which helped us monitor Dad's pain and mobility, and also whether he was eating properly. Having always been active and independent, Dad found it difficult having to rely on carers - especially for his toilet needs - but thanks to their kindness and professionalism he soon overcame this. Sadly Dad became too unwell to remain at home, but if he could have taken his team to the care home with him, he would have!
