They are a small family run care provider, looking after people in their own homes in and around West Dorset: Dorchester, Broadmayne, Bere Regis, Crossways, Wool, Weymouth and the surrounding areas. They are clinically led by a registered paramedic and their staff are sourced from the local community and trained beyond industry standard to take basic observations and ensure that clients receive top quality care at all times. Better Care at Home West Limited also offers a falls service for clients, including clinical assessment, referral if necessary and assisting uninjured people back on to their feet using a Raizer lifting chair.

Better Care at Home West Limited provides top quality, person-centred support and a genuine caring approach. Every care plan is tailored to a client's specific needs and wishes.

These kind people looked after me post surgery earlier in the year and were a huge help and comfort to me.
They also provided transport to and from hospital appointments for a second round of surgery three months later.
Highly recommended.

I find the help I have each morning very good indeed. The carers are punctual, friendly, and very competent and knowledgeable. They undertake a range of tasks which I find difficult. While some things are the same everyday, on some days there are extra jobs which will vary. They always ask if there
is anything else they can do.
They seem to me to be very interested in their work and will discuss any problems which arise. They have even fetched shopping which was a great help. They have been very reassuring when discussing my hospital appointments and tests. I feel able to discuss any concern I have.
When creaming my legs, which can be very painful, they are particularly gentle and careful, I do not have to worry.
Although I was hesitant about having care at home it has made a great difference to my wellbeing. The need is not as essential now as it was, but it makes a very reassuring start to my day.
I cannot thank them enough.

I have nothing but praise for the outstanding service we received from Better Care at Home. All the carers received into my mother's home were excellent. The owner of Better Care personally took an interest in our problems and was able to find solutions to give the best care to my mother who was by
no means an easy case, having dementia but also a fierce independent spirit which she was not ready to have crushed and still wished to have some control over her own life. Better Care was able to find ways of helping her unobtrusively whilst allowing her to keep a certain amount of independence. It was refreshing for her to be treated without condescension or patronisation as she still needed to feel that she, even with dementia, was a fully functioning, able and intelligent adult.

The resident is very happy with the care provided and the information feedback from her team of carers. We are always kept informed by the staff and this does give us peace of mind knowing that the resident is being looked after properly.

Better Care at Home was absolutely fantastic. My father was in receipt of their active respite service for 8 months during which they took him to places of interest several times a week, combined with tea and cake. In reality, they did so much more. He had a small number of regular carers whom he was
able to get to know over the 8 months and the company was my go-to point for information and help when I didn’t know who best to contact or how to source equipment when other services were not being very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and always accompanied with smiles and good nature. They were very flexible with regard to changes in timings to fit in with visitors and accompanied Dad to the GP when we were not able to. We really appreciated their support when we had to move Dad to a care home and subsequently at his funeral. I have no reservations in giving the highest recommendation to any family looking for consistent, reliable, person-centred care for a family member or friend.

Rowan

Rowan Jackson

Job Title: Registered Manager/Owner

Joined: 2015

Rowan established Better Care at Home with Joannah Bishop in 2015 following a long career in the ambulance service initially in London and later in Dorset after moving here with his young family. He has worked as a registered paramedic all across Dorset, eventually settling in Swanage as a community paramedic on the rapid response car. Rowan has also worked for the 111 services as a clinical supervisor. Since starting Better Care at Home, he has moved to Dorchester. He has a keen interest in keeping fit and is passionate about cars. He has three grown-up daughters who are all active in the business. Rowan holds a bachelor's degree in health and social care.

Lorraine (Lolly to her friends) was born in Shrewsbury and moved to Dorset in 2013. Although it's hard to believe, Lolly has worked in care since 1995.


She has 2 teenage children and in addition to her husband Stu, also shares her house with a 5-foot boa constrictor, a large tarantula and a Chihuahua called Jorge.


In her spare time, she enjoys going for walks and drives in the countryside and listening to music. Lolly holds a level 5 diploma in health and social care.

Julia has run our Weymouth branch since 2020. She runs a tight ship, having previously worked in a chandlery supplier (yacht supplies) in Weymouth.
