My wife has not been too well lately due to travel to medical appointments. The support from the carers has been exceptional. Not only do they do what is on the list but are always looking out what needs to be done without being asked. They are respectful to my wife and once they get to know my wife
they understand her condition and recognise she can always interact, but still treat her in a person-centred approach. It has been 2 years since we transferred to Helping Hands and the standards have not dropped off. Best decision we made to have this company.

Without Helping Hands and the fabulous carers, proving the personal carer that our 90 year old mum's needs would be nigh on impossible. She is now housebound and the time her fabulous variety of carers spend with her, really keeps up her moral. Nothing is too much for them and the Admin team also work
hard to manage our weekly amendments to the standard rota. A great service that I've recommended to others and would highly commend to anyone looking for this type of support.

The carers show kindness and care towards my brother. He enjoys them coming and has built up a good relationship with them. He finds it very helpful if they phone and let him know if they are going to be late. They cook, clean and look after his general health. He really likes it when they stay the
full hour and use any extra time to chat to him. We have had productive meetings with the management planning my brother's care together as a team.

We had a number of teething problems to begin with, these were related to admin and left us with a negative view. These were eventually sorted.
Still not receiving the same person each visit, this has caused concern with mum.

I have found the Helping Hands Home Care (Plymouth) staff to be proactive and willing to contact me with matters of concern regarding my parents' behaviours. They have been willing to participate in case conferences to discuss arrangements for changes to their care plans and to advise on appropriate
actions to help improve their well-being. As I live near Norwich and my parents are in Plymouth, it has been helpful to speak to the carers by telephone to discuss the current situation or to check on matters where there may be confusions. This approach was useful when there were concerns with my father's medication resulting in a safeguarding issue being raised, this was successfully resolved. The carers have been willing to spend time with my father and to talk with him which is good for his well-being.

The family are really pleased with the help my eighty eight year old mother is receiving. Caring, professional carers who are making mum's life easier to stay in her own home. Would definitely recommend Helping Hands Home Care (Plymouth).

I find the staff friendly and helpful. I am especially pleased with the feed back and have been called to inform me of any problems with my father. My father enjoys the company of the friendly staff and looks forward to their visits.

As a new client, my father was not at all sure that he needed a carer. At ninety six he is still living independently, cooking for himself and with a weekly help for the cleaning is surviving very well. Unfortunately, I am the only local family member and I live thirty five miles away. I visit regularly
and have been doing all his shopping but there have been many days when he has been by himself. Keeping in daily contact is becoming a problem as increasingly his mobile has run down, his iPad isn't working or hearing aids just aren't up to the job. Knowing that someone is visiting him to deal with his technical issues, sharing a cup of tea and having a normal everyday conversation is giving me the reassurance I need that all is well. He has started to get to know his carer and is increasingly happy to have someone in his home to deal with the odds and ends he might forget. I hope he will continue to accept this regular help as part of his life.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

Gemma Hampton

Job Title: Branch Care Manager

About me

Hello, my name is Gemma Hampton. My responsibilities at Helping Hands are to manage a team, both office and care staff, to deliver a high standard of care to those individuals we support in their own homes. I'm responsible for overseeing the recruitment of carers, as well as working closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure we gain holistic knowledge of those we support and can assist them regardless of their age/needs/conditions.

I was inspired to join Care because I love to make a difference and wanted to ensure people were cared for in their own homes to a high standard. I really enjoyed being a carer myself and have enjoyed my career path within care which has now led me to be a Branch Manager.

Experience and expertise

I have over eight years of experience within the care industry, I started working as a carer, and I quickly progressed to a senior carer after completing my Level 3 in Health and Social care.

I then became a field care manager working across the South Hams, I was responsible for ensuring the delivery of care was to a high level and ensuring each customer's care plan was maintained and updated as and when required.

I became a CQC registered Manager in 2022 and I am now working towards my Level 5 in Leadership in Adult Social Care.

Why I chose Helping Hands

I started with Helping Hands in December 2021 as a care coordinator which led to me becoming a branch manager in January 2022.

I wanted to work for Helping Hands as I respect the morals and the underpinning ethos of person-centred care, I truly believe life is better at home so it seemed like the perfect for me. Since taking over the Plymouth Branch we have become one of the biggest branches in the company and we have received Flagship status within Helping Hands.
