Westmorland Homecare is a unique Doctor led community home care service. They are the only service in the area to be run by a doctor team and are proud to be making a positive difference to people's lives every day. They want to provide the best care it is possible to provide and want all their clients to be happy with their support.

Staff help people to stay happy, healthy and active at home by providing a comprehensive range of services. From a couple of hours per week for companionship and shopping to 24-hour personal care at home, they will build a tailor-made care package for each client.

Staff are really passionate about changing the way care is delivered and doing something really special. They are proud to have recruited a wonderful team of caring, compassionate people who do the job because they love helping people in their hearts.

They founded Westmorland Homecare on traditional values and are passionate about providing the highest quality care. Their mission is to change the lives of people in their community, both clients and staff, by creating something really special. Their services extend to across the whole of the South Lakes; Kendal, Windermere, Staveley, Ambleside, Grasmere, Milnthorpe, Grange over Sands and the surrounding rural areas.

Needed home help, living on my own after serious illness (Covid-19).
Westmorland Homecare people were unfailingly thoughtful, kind, sensitive, responsive to particular needs or requirements. All work done thoroughly and efficiently - very professional.
I would certainly call on Westmorland Homecare
again if I needed home help or personal care in the future.

I am leaving (sadly) this house on Monday, to go to a care home as my arthritis gets worse with ages and lots of use, hip joints - I need more

From the outset, we found everyone friendly, approachable and caring. The care my dad had was excellent. The ladies cared for my dad with respect and treated him with care. It was peace of mind to know my dad has this care in place. We could always speak/email with any concerns and likewise I was always
updated if anything was concerning them. The back up in my dad's last few months was a godsend. Thank goodness we found such lovely people to care for our dad and grandad.

The staff have been so wonderful with mum. She likes them more than me! The company seems well organised and well run. I have mainly dealt with the manager but all the staff I have spoken to have been great. I know one of our carers used to be a nurse who retired from the NHS and the other has been
working in the industry for 30 years so I feel confident in them. I would highly recommend the company.

My father was recently discharged from hospital after a long, painful, and persistent illness. he struggled at home on his own after discharge. Westmorland Homecare came to his/our rescue. They were very helpful and immediately came to our aid. They have provided an excellent service, providing first-class
care. My Dad feels confident at home and happy. This is all thanks to Westmorland and their first-class care. I don't know what we could have done without them.

Carers were all excellent and have contributed to the fact that I am now able to walk again with sticks. Always cheerful, which relieved the 'boredom' of being bedbound for so long and feeling 'fed up'. Their integrated work with the district nursing team, ie 'bedsores' and the treatment of them was
a useful exercise for all concerned 'especially my bottom'.

My aunt and uncle had excellent care. My aunt sadly passed away, and the team stepped in to give all daycare and some 24-hour care - excellent service from all the team. Great coordination.

I have found Westmorland Homecare to provide an excellent, professional service. I live 335 miles from my mum and using Westmorland Homecare has made my life so much easier. My mum suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and until very recently, she has refused to move into a care home. Westmorland Homecare
has provided flexible care and home help totally tailored to my mum’s needs. I have always been fully informed of any developments with my mum. When mum finally agreed to go into a care home and I was on an extended holiday in Cyprus, Westmorland Homecare safely transported mum from Cumbria down to Devon. I would not hesitate to recommend the service provided by Westmorland Homecare.

I always get excellent care from my team. They are always on time and happy to help me whatever I require. It is like friends popping in. We have found Westmoreland Homecare a very reliable agency. They are very helpful at sorting out problems for us as none of the family live in the area. We used Westmorland Homecare from May 2018 until January 2019, initially for just 3 hours a week and eventually for 4 hours a day – throughout this time we were very pleased with all our dealings with them.


Mum was happy and confident with the individual carers who visited her, looking forward to

their visits. The team was expanded over time to 6 carers but were always introduced to her carefully and all got to know her well – always calm, patient and ready to have a laugh – appointments were never rushed. Indeed, they were always able to stay longer whenever there was a need.


We must also say how supported we felt as a family by all the carers, managers and office staff – they were always on the end of the phone, listening and were able to quickly adjust the care package to suit Mums ever-increasing needs.


Without WHC Mum couldn't have stayed in her own home for so long – Thank you.

All staff treated my husband with dignity and respect at all times. They showed skill in all areas. They helped him retain his identity by always using his preferred name. They displayed patience and professionalism on the occasions when he became upset or aggravated, they never displayed anger or upset
on these occasions. They also had regard for my experience as his carer. The standard of care never fell below very good and was frequently excellent.

Westmorland Homecare has been providing much-needed support to both my parents since my mum was discharged from a lengthy hospital stay after a significant period of illness. Both Mum and Dad benefit from being assigned three regular carers and have a positive therapeutic relationship with them. The
staff put a real emphasis on enablement and are giving my parents the encouragement and confidence to get back to their usual routine. The ladies also bring chat and laughter into their lives and keep them up to date on what is going on in the local community - a vital part of a recovery from any illness. I have been touched by the levels of compassion and understanding shown by all staff. Many thanks.

Wonderful service we are receiving, mainly supplied by two regular ladies and one who fits in when holidays/days off are used. Mother was against anyone calling in but now welcomes the service wholeheartedly. For me, it has taken away certain tensions and worries, especially when away for several days.
There is a good interconnection between myself and the carers and we are extremely happy at the setup.

Dr Macaulay has a background in both health and social care. After growing up in the Lake District he graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Medicine and Surgery and has worked in hospitals across the country. He specialised in Emergency Medicine.. He has worked in homecare for 10 years and previously ran a homecare company in Liverpool before moving back to Kendal. He has also worked in nursing homes including specialised dementia and challenging behaviour care. He holds a level 5 diploma in Leadership as well as undertaking extensive training in Care Management. Dr Macaulay is also a dementia trainer, moving and handling trainer and is a specialist safeguarding lead.

Christopher Moss

Job Title: Director

Dr Moss started his career in engineering before moving to health and social care. He completed his second degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Newcastle before undertaking specialist training in intensive care and anaesthetics. He has a background in business management and personal experience caring for relatives with dementia. He is also an adventure medic and holds an ocean master sailing qualification, mountain medicine diploma and is a qualified skiing instructor.
