Very friendly, helpful and professional service, we have been very impressed with the level of care and time taken to get to know and support my dad. It can be difficult to find the right care and we are very happy to recommend Home Instead.

We first met Home Instead when we needed care for my father prior to his being admitted to a residential nursing home.
The staff were kind, patient and understanding of his needs, enabling him to maintain a degree of independence but able to assist when needed.
I had no problems in continuing to use
their services to assist my mother who started with vascular dementia. Her team of people have been on hand to reassure her as she adjusts to living alone.
It is reassuring to know that someone is with her during the night. Over time she has settled at night, allowing us to modify her care plan so she can have a companion on a weekly basis who can take her out for tea and cake. Give her a change of scene and someone else to talk to.
A carer turns up to each shift and it is always someone Mum knows.

My dad has sadly passed away, in the last few weeks of his life, Home Instead provided additional care for him, calling in three times a day to provide personal care, companionship and respite for my brother and I, who were staying in his home.

I cannot thank the whole team of care professionals

enough! To say they all went above and beyond in their care for our family is an understatement and we are indebted to them for the way in which they made a very difficult time much more bearable. It felt as if each member of the team became not just someone who provided a service (which they did and very professionally), but a friend and I've missed seeing them since Dad's passing. Each one is an absolute credit to Home Instead!

If you're looking for a company to provide the best possible care for a family member or friend, then I would say look no further, your loved one will most definitely be in the safest of hands.

Carers from Home Instead have been looking after my late husband from May 2021 (companionship) till May 2022, when the NHS asked them to provide two carers, four times a day. This continued, with a short break, until his death in September. My whole experience was one of their concern for us both. At
first, it was more emphasis on cheerfulness and chatting with him, plus helping with chores for me. As things became more difficult, physical support with showering and toileting was given in such a way as to maintain his dignity. Neither of us ever felt we were being a nuisance. Once or twice, they diffused argumentative situations between us, brought about by tiredness (me) or frustration (him). All our carers had different personalities and different gifts, but all gave me confidence in their knowledgeable support and advice.

Thank you for taking the time to review our service. We were privileged to support you and your husband until he passed away. His team loved building relationships with you both, and we are so pleased that their support and advice were helpful.

Home Instead have been visiting my Mum for about 6 months. This is the first time she has needed some extra support in her home and was anxious about it. The whole team are very professional and make my Mum feel special. They go out for walks, go shopping, go to the local coffee shops, they wash and
set her hair and paint her nails and have a lot of laughs. I know my Mum looks forward to their visits and is always happy to tell me about her time with the careers. Mum has Alzheimer's and can become anxious. The care visits give her a plan for her week and something to look forward to. I know she is happy and safe when I can't be there.

Excellent attentive and thoughtful care. Client enjoyed the visits and benefited from regular hot mid-day meal. Only slight issue was in passing information from one carer to another, for example what to put in sandwiches. A pattern was established after a few weeks but sadly the client then went into
a Care Home.

Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South Lakes

Thank you for taking the time to review our service. We are delighted to hear that you felt the care was attentive and thoughtful. We always aim to provide this high level of service and to personalise it to the needs of each individual client. Your feedback regarding communication between staff has been investigated. We do use an online app to allow staff to pass information easily between each other and the office and we are sorry that you felt the level of communication did not meet your expectations on this occasion. We always take such feedback and look at ways to improve further and we will be doing that in this case. Thank you.

When Mum was put into palliative care, we weren't sure who we would get to look after her, but the carers of Home Instead South Lakes have been brilliant. They adapt to how Mum feels on a day to day basis. As a small team of carers, they work well together, encouraging Mum on bad days, laughing, joking
and singing on good days. They have totally put her at ease as she journeys towards the end of life. The office staff are really helpful in supporting the family too with respite when needed, providing rotas in good time so that Mum doesn't get confused about which carer is coming and liaising in good time with any changes that need to be made to visit times/carers, etc. Everyone is approachable about any issues which lends itself really well to providing Mum with the best care from Home Instead and the family, which is what it's about. Thank you to everyone at Home Instead for being there for Mum and us.

My mum has dementia and has companionship visits with her Home Instead carer. She loves going for coffee and visits to the hairdresser.
It makes her day to have someone to visit her when we can’t.
I’m so glad we made the decision to choose Home Instead!

I am very pleased and reassured with the care that Mum has received from her caregivers at Home Instead. Mum is very comfortable with the ladies that provide her care as they have been consistently the same which has enabled her to get to know them and feel comfortable chatting to them. This social
contact along with the practical support they provide helps her enormously and brightens her day. The extra support enables her to enjoy the independence of living in her own home.

Several friends, some whom work for the NHS, recommended Home Instead for companionship visits for my mum who has Alzheimer's. I'm so glad we went with them, she loves her trips out for a cup of tea and cake or to have a wander round the shops. She always comes home happy telling us how attentive the
carer is and loves having a chat with them. It's very comforting for us knowing how professional they are keeping her safe, communicating so well and keeping us informed of how the day went.

I live an hour away and was looking for care support for my Mum, who is experiencing Alzheimer’s, to be sure she ate/drank and had more social contact. Mum was reluctant as she didn’t see the need. A friend recommended Home Instead and I also knew one of their care givers.
Since November Mum has the
same three care givers visiting over the week which is important. I (and my brother who lives abroad) can see the details of each visit through the app which care givers complete.
I stayed for the first weeks visits to meet Mum’s care givers who were introduced to Mum by the care coordinator. I have already seen many acts of kindness by her care givers which go beyond the job specification. Mum seems much happier and relaxed. She is supported with her gardening, embroidery, cooking and jigsaws. Her care givers were matched to Mum’s needs, personality and interests. With the Kendal office and three wonderful care givers I am part of a team around Mum rather than caring alone which is a relief.

When our funding came through from continuing healthcare the first place I approached was Home Instead. They visited us to gauge our needs and also what I would like to take from our experiences.
Within a few days, they got back to me and offered me the start of a care package that suited our requirements.
I was extremely anxious about how hubby would react but I needed not to.
The carers provided have been unbelievable at working with him. Their insight into his needs and demands. Yes, there's the odd hiccup but I would not go back and change a thing. In all honesty, they have kept me sane and capable of keeping hubby at home for a lot longer than I thought.
So thank you to all the team in Kendal.

My nonagenarian mother has quite rapidly progressive mixed dementia and was initially resistant to accepting any care at all. She has three daily visits with a broad range of care tasks. I’ve been pleasantly surprised in the current climate of carer shortages at what good care can be. The caregiver
team are highly professional and genuinely caring in their day to day duties, respecting her dignity and constant need for reassurance. The management team and the caregivers provide not only responsive care but also think things through and look ahead, advising my brother and I about issues that we may need attending to. They have several times gone more than the extra mile to help with pressing matters, thus avoiding more difficult problems. I am confident my mother is in conscientious, good hands.

Home Instead carers provide care for my dad daily, which has been consistently helpful and supportive. I then had an unrelated issue to do with my car. The car dealership hadn't been very helpful in wanting to fix my car. One of our carers went the extra mile on checking into this a bit further. I'd
also called up the office to ask if they knew any good taxi firms etc. But between them, they pointed me in the right direction to be able to get the car fixed by a better garage. I was also pointed in the right direction from the office to be able to get the booster Covid jab at home for Dad rather than have to go out for it. All in all, I felt the staff at Home Instead were really willing to help in all aspects to support us the best they can. It's all been very much appreciated.

My husband is suffering from mixed dementia and seemed in need of more company. Home Instead arranged for a companion to come two mornings a week to chat with him and possibly take him out. At first, my husband was resistant to the arrangement but the companion gently pursued his commitment and won
my husband over so that after a few months he really looked forward to his visits and thoroughly enjoyed his company. I admired the companion's quiet determination and was grateful for the extra stimulation his visits and their outings provided for my husband.

My husband was in palliative care for nearly three weeks. He was looked after by a small team of carers from Home Instead. The carers were excellent, punctual, efficient, kind and so helpful to him and me. We could not have received better care with such a feeling of love and dedication. We appreciated
the fact that we saw the same four main carers. Their care meant that my husband spent his last days in comfort and dignity.

Home Instead are looking after my dad, and my mum!
Mum was very much against having help for dad.
When I spoke to the company I made it clear of mums' feelings. They have made my mum feel so relaxed and important.
Dad is more than happy with 'His ladies!' We have 3 ladies that come in. All very
different people, the only thing that's the same is the kindness and care they show.
They all go above and beyond their duties. They are part of our family now.
For me, Home Instead with the team are heaven-sent.
I would and already have recommended this organisation.
Thank you girls.

I spent quite a bit of time researching local care companies when my aunt needed care. I live far away so wanted someone trustworthy and reliable, caring and empathic. Home Instead use an app that allows me to monitor how my aunt is and the care given on my phone.
The group of ladies who came were
nice and friendly and my aunt liked them all right away. Nothing was too much trouble, helping her wash and dress and making her food and generally helping with the house.
In the few months they have been coming my aunts quality of life has improved. She was miserable and had lost interest in a lot of the things she loved.
My aunt now enjoys watching all the birds attracted to her garden by the feeders which the carers now see to on her behalf. She has also started listening to her CDs again and tells everyone about how she and my uncle went dancing all the time.
My aunt has cared for a lot of people and deserves to be well looked after now. I believe she is.

I started as a Care Professional at Home Instead a few years ago, so I truly understand the importance of helping and guiding everyone on their journey with us, whether they are new Care Professionals or have been with us for a while. I love seeing our Care Professionals thrive and our clients live their best lives in the comfort of their homes. Home Instead offers fantastic career opportunities for those who want them, from office support roles to community angel and mentor roles, as well as Level 2, 3, and 5 qualifications in Health and Social Care.

Our clients and Care Professionals are at the centre of everything I do.

I support our Care Team and our amazing Care Professionals in a variety of ways. My role includes recruiting and bringing on board new Care Professionals, guiding them through the hiring process, and making sure they feel welcome and supported from day one. I speak to people who are interested in joining our team, sharing the incredible opportunities available at Home Instead and helping them take the first steps into a rewarding career in care.

Once they’re part of the team, I provide initial and ongoing training to help them settle into their roles and ensure they are fully equipped to provide the highest standard of care. I continue to support them with annual training, competencies, care plans, and more—making sure they feel confident, valued, and ready to thrive.

My goal is to ensure our Care Professionals always feel supported, appreciated, and empowered to deliver OUTSTANDING care. This ensures our clients consistently receive the level of care we would want for our own loved ones—and nothing less.

Job Title: Engagement Coordinator

I started out as a Care Professional, a role I truly love, and I still enjoy going out to see my regular clients. I have now moved into the office as an Engagement Coordinator, where I’m focused on growing our network and connections in the South Lakes. A key part of my role involves meeting and getting to know key people in our community, building strong relationships with them, and working together to make a positive impact.

I also take pride in organising community events that bring people together and support local initiatives. One of my favourite projects is running our gift-giving schemes, such as Be an Easter Bunny and Be a Santa, which help spread joy to those in need. Giving back to the community is something I’m incredibly passionate about, and I love being part of initiatives that brighten people’s lives.

Being able to combine my love for care with engaging and supporting our community makes my role so rewarding. I’m excited to continue connecting with others and making a difference across the South Lakes.
