When I started my journey with Westmorland Homecare I was new to care and it was something I had never done before. However, I quickly settled into my role as an HCA and loved my day-to-day duties, loved seeing all my regular clients and helping them stay independent.
After 12 months of being with Westmorland, I was offered a Senior position and my favourite duty was mentoring and guiding new HCAs. I loved this opportunity because it is really rewarding and there’s nothing better than seeing their confidence grow just like mine did.
After 18 months I found out I had been shortlisted for an award at the Great British Care Awards for ‘Newcomer to care’! Needless to say, this was a huge surprise!
I am over the moon to have been promoted to Care manager leading our very special team.

I have always been passionate about Health and Social care since being in high school where I did my work placement in a Care Home looking after people with dementia. I loved the aspect of making a positive difference to people and always trying to enhance their lives, reflecting on this I then decided to go to college and study my Level 3 in Health & Social Care. During my education, I had the pleasure of completing a work placement at the hospital looking after the elderly and in a care home.
Post College I then completed 100 hours of work placement combined working as a student nurse at Clifton hospital giving rehabilitation to patients enabling them to safely get back to living at home and at the day surgery unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Doing work placement and working in lots of different environments allowed me to work alongside lots of different people and gain lots of experience and confidence.
I have worked full time in a Care Home with Dementia residents and this opened my eyes to how much great, person-centred care can impact the individuals lives and their families too. It made me want to be the best carer I could be and give them the best quality of life. I then moved on to Domiciliary care and eventually found my way to Westmorland homecare as a carer. I have loved every minute of working for this company and loved building relationships with the clients and treating them as if they were my family.
I am now a Recruitment Coordinator for the company, and I want to do everything I can to recruit the best carers to ensure the clients are getting the best care possible, whilst ensuring the carers receive all the support they need. I look forward to chatting with you.
