I find that the carers mainly very good, but the person responsible for scheduling the carer times of visiting clients is totally wrong my carers come mainly nearer the time that they should come but at weekends sometimes hit and miss or I don't get any carers at all without warning that they are not
coming or rescheduled and replace a carer that was supposed to have come but changed it without me knowing who I am going to get. It seams that this scheduler should come and see for himself on what mess he is doing to us clients schedules and also the carers too, if he don't then it's just going to get worse.

Reply from Anthea Stuart, Registered Manager at Choices Homecare (Kirklees & Wakefield)

Thank you for your feedback which is much appreciated. I am pleased that you are happy with the carers that visit you through out the week , Unfortunately at times of staff absences or Annual Leave a different carer is allocated at short notice to ensure that our duty of care is fulfilled. We are currently recruiting carers so it is expected that all weekend visits will be permanently covered and schedules will then reflect a more settled service for all.

Most carers are very good but some not so much times for meals vary which does not help my diabetes but on the whole they are very helpful.

Happy regarding the care my mum is receiving. Choices Homecare have provided my mum with a few regular carers which has enabled them to know my mums needs, her ways and likes and dislikes therefore providing continuation and good standard of care and developing a good professional relationship with
mum. Occasionally carers who are not so familiar with my mum have difficulty identifying her memory loss/dementia which could affect. The carers do not hesitate to inform me if there are any issues with um and management always available for my to contact by email or phone always very helpful.

Would be good to receive a couple of the same carers as I have to instruct them if they haven't been before. But all the carers are very kind. Also, I still get charged even if I have had to cancel due to illness or hospital appointments. Hopefully, I'll get a refund!

Reply from Anthea Stuart, Registered Manager at Choices Homecare (Kirklees & Wakefield)

Thank you for your comments. I am pleased you find the carers kind. Unfortunately, if sickness prevents us from sending a regular carer we have to send another to ensure care needs are met. The carers have full access to each personal care plan so you should not need instruct them and I am sorry you have had to do this. Regarding charging, we only charge the local authority what we deliver in-line with our policies and procedures. If I can be of any assistance advising you further please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

I find the carers I have now can be summed up as kind, respectful and pleasant. Helpful in all aspects of care, exactly what is needed, especially considering the very long hours they put in and I suspect with not well paid.

Some carers are diligent and attentive.
Not enough attention is given to administering meals.

Reply from Elaine Bradley-Smith, Employee Engagement & Communications Officer at Choices Homecare (Kirklees & Wakefield)

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review, we really appreciate all feedback received (both positive and negative) to assist us with making future improvements to our services. We have been in touch to discuss your comments further and understand that you are generally happy with the care you receive. We are sorry that at times you feel 'insufficient attention is given to administering meals' but understand that meals are sometimes left to defrost in the fridge, to ensure they are ready for preparation at meal times and that this can sometimes appear as though they are just being left in the fridge on a regular basis. Please feel welcome to contact the office (on your usual local number) should there ever be anything you (or your family) would like to discuss; please rest assured that we will do everything we can to try and help you and put plans in place in order to resolve a situation should this be required. Thanks again for reviewing us through Homecare.co.uk.

We have two care teams sharing duties. The first team have been consistent from day one and seem experienced and are very good. The second shift has been covered by a wide mix of staff who seem less experienced/proficient although we now seem to have two more regular staff for the second shift who will
hopefully grow into the role as they become more familiar with my mother.

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Home Care Provider does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
