Home Instead (Lancaster) believes that your own home is where you belong and where you’ll feel safe, happy and comfortable as you age. However, a point may come where everyday tasks and activities feel more challenging.

The services provided by Home Instead are designed to allow you to carry on living a happy independent life. These services are completely tailored to you and your normal routine. They can range a little walk in the park, help to carry on with favourite activities and hobbies, help after a fall, complex dementia care or just a little extra help around the house.

Home Instead is very different to other providers. CAREGivers go through a comprehensive award-winning training programme including training in specialist areas such dementia and palliative care. Extra time is taken to get to know clients before being matched with a CAREGiver based on personality and shared interests. The CAREGiver and the client are always introduced before the service starts. CAREGivers do not wear uniform — just like any other family or friend that would support the client. Home Instead is the only care company in the UK to have been granted the Queen’s Award for Excellence (Innovation), awarded in 2016.

Home Instead helped care for my mother after a serious accident that left her depressed and a shadow of her former self. The team of lovely ladies helped her to regain her confidence and cheeky personality; she always looked forward to their visits. We couldn't have managed without them in what was
an extremely difficult year. Their ability to step in and help at short notice was invaluable. Sadly, mum is no longer with us but thanks to their help, our lasting memories of her are ones filled with laughter.

For the past nearly 3 months Home Instead have been supporting my mum twice daily as she has not been coping on her own since my dad was moved to a home with dementia.
What can I say their initial response to the request for assistance was immediate, effective and efficient- hats off to the team. Their
care and patience in very difficult circumstances have been outstanding and I couldn't ask for more.
A huge thank you to the whole team you truly are amazing.

For over two years we have used Home Instead to give me respite due to my wife's dementia. The carers were all most considerate when dealing with my wife. As the dementia worsened my wife began to see some of the females (especially the youngest ones) as a threat and became abusive to one of them. On
contacting Home Instead to discuss this they immediately sent males only. This worked well. I, as her husband and main carer was very impressed by the kindness and professionalism shown by all staff.

Thank you for taking the time to review the service. I'm pleased to hear our care staff were able to do a good job which allowed you to take a little bit of well-earned respite. Thank you for using our services and best wishes for the future.

Over the past five months, my dad's dementia has accelerated quickly and Home Instead have provided exceptional, responsive care at each stage, supporting my dad to live safely at home prior to admission to a care home. The communication with the manager has been excellent throughout and the ability
to adapt to the changes in my dad's behaviour (eg arranging a sleep-in carer at short notice) has been a lifesaver. The carers have been extremely professional and caring towards my dad even when his behaviour has deteriorated and I couldn't recommend Home Instead highly enough for providing an outstanding service.

Reply from Sam Hayhurst, Managing Director at Home Instead (Lancaster & Morecambe)

Thank you for this kind review - I will ensure this feedback is passed on to the team who cared for your Dad. Our team had grown very fond of your Dad over the past few months and we will all miss him a lot. We all wish him the best of luck for his move to the care home and if we can be of any help in the future please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Home Instead have been providing care for my mum for four months now. They visit three times a day to help with personal care, meals and household tasks. All of the carers matched to Mum are lovely and always go above and beyond to make sure she is happy. I like that Mum has a small team around her
and it's the same carriers who visit each week, I feel this makes such a big difference in the quality of care delivered. I would fully recommend a care package from Home Instead.

Thank you for this very kind review. I will ensure this feedback is passed over to your mum's team who I'm sure will be delighted. If you have any concerns or issues in the future please don't hesitate to reach out.

Really impressed with the professional service from Home Instead. My dad has been struggling over the past couple of months with his morning routine like making his bed and setting a healthy breakfast. I made contact and Home Instead arranged to come and see us to discuss some care for my dad in the
mornings. We were both put at ease with their approach of providing a regular carer who Dad would get to know and build a relationship with. We started a couple of months ago and have noticed a big change in Dad. Great service so far. Thank you.

I just wanted to say what a fantastic job Home Instead has done looking after my mum. The carers came 4 times a day to support with personal care, home help and meals. Mum really likes having the time to chat with them and share a cup of tea! I visit and can enjoy each other's company much more. Thank
you to everyone at Home Instead.

Home Instead (Lancaster & Morecambe) visited my dad for around 10 months. The only provider, of the ones I contacted, that wanted to meet him and understand his needs before we committed to a contract.
Their team are mature, thoughtful and kind. They attended to his social and intelectual needs, not
just personal care and cooking.
Happy to have a chat and laugh, they took an interest in his life experience. He appreciated the time they spent with him and was also able to keep his dog for longer.
The management and scheduling team were flexible and responsive to last minute and changing requirements. If he did not see eye to eye with a carer they amended the schedule.
Not the cheapest option, but an hour was a full hour rather than 45 minutes of care and 15 minutes of travel time.

I live at a distance from my mum so when she became unable to look after herself, tough decisions needed to be made, Mum really wanted to stay at home with her little cat. So, I chose Home Instead.
It is very hard to put into words what the Home Instead team now mean to both me and my mum. The staff
at Home Instead have been caring for Mum in her home since 2022 they have since proven themselves to be completely invaluable.
Not only do they show genuine love and care towards Mum in everything they do but they have also gone above and beyond for me. They know I am not just down the road, so they have stepped up as my carers and my advocates.
They have organised and co-operated with hospital, tradesmen and GP visits. They have reacted promptly to needs, even dry-cleaning duvets and fetching essential equipment such as mattress covers.
They call me with everything I need to know, and their warm and friendly approach makes even tough news easier.

Thank you so much for this amazing review, it really means a lot to all of us here. Your mum is a very special lady, she's cherished by both the office staff who manage the package and all Care Professionals who visit. All of them are willing to go above and beyond to ensure she is as happy, safe and comfortable as possible. It's been an absolute pleasure to keep your mum in her own home where she wants to be.

I contacted Home Instead in August to provide care for my mother who needs support to shower in the morning. They explained would match a small team of their carers to my mother who would come on the same schedule on a weekly basis. All the regular staff who came are great and always willing to do any
extra bits Mum needs. Most importantly Mum enjoys their company and looks forward to them visiting. if there are any changes that need to be made due to sickness or holidays the office always gets in touch in advance. Great service would recommend.

I commissioned Home Instead (Lancaster & Morecambe) services to provide care for my Dad who needs help getting up and ready in the morning as well as support with general housework and medication. Excellent service was received right from the initial consultation. The professional approach put Dad at
ease with the situation as he was initially very resistant. The staff always turn up at the scheduled time and Dad has got to build up a bond with everybody that visits which is great to see.

We wanted to say how well our mother was supported by the Home Instead team. The carers were kind, patient and totally professional with my mother and particularly in her last few days of life. They treated her with dignity at all times and were gentle and comforting. They were knowledgeable about giving
care and were efficient as well as caring. They supported the whole family during this very difficult time and made this challenging period much more bearable. I would recommend them to any family needing care for their loved ones.

Having worked in the care sector myself, I was initially impressed with the professionalism of my mother's first visit, compiled with a very caring attitude. All Mum's carers are just that. They never rush her and are so tuned in to her needs. She likes them all and looks forward to seeing them. Having
dealt with other care firms personally, I would rate Home Instead by far the best for our needs.

Reply from Sam Hayhurst, Managing Director at Home Instead (Lancaster & Morecambe)

Excellent service from the start. Dad was sceptical about needing support at the end of his respite care but was willing to give it a go on the understanding that it could be flexed down (or up as required). Having experienced crisis care at one point, he was adamant that any care should be at a time
that worked for him and not random times of the day. At 87 he was still mentally sharp but physically weakening and just needed a little help in the morning and evenings. Home Instead provided a regular set of carers at fixed times of the day who helped him with basic domestic tasks but most importantly spoke to him. Our conversation went from his list of medical complaints (many, some serious) to him recounting his conversations with his carers. He benefitted from the interaction and having meaningful conversations with people who really did care about him. It made a positive difference to the last months of his life. I definitely recommend.

Having left the Royal Navy as a weapon engineer, where my role was to ensure all systems were maintained correctly and ready to use and also respond to emergencies, it was essential for me to carry on doing something that’s important and meaningful. Helping people to remain living in their own homes and helping out families in need definitely fits that bill! I was also very fortunate that during my time in the Royal Navy, I got to visit many interesting places including Tahiti, Pitcairn Island and Easter Island.

I’m really grateful to be in a role where I get to be involved in the local community and make a difference in so many people’s lives. Leading a team of Care Professionals and office staff who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of the elderly is a privilege. Watching them grow and develop while making a significant difference has a real feel-good factor to it.

In my spare time, I like to do anything that involves being outside and active! Whether that is hiking in the Lake District, mountain biking or just walking the dogs! When the weather is a bit more acceptable I also enjoy paddleboarding and kayaking. I’m an avid sports fan and enjoy watching all types of sports.

Job Title: Client Experience Manager

I began my career in care in 2001 when at college I took a placement at a day centre for the elderly and loved every minute of it. I then worked in a nursing home for a while before I joined a home care agency based in Kendal.

I worked my way through the company from care assistant to coordinator and loved the challenge that working in the busy office gave me. I stepped away from this role when I had my first child and returned to care homes to give me the flexibility I needed with a young family. I returned to home care as an administrator when my eldest child started school and, after that company, closing, I returned to the original care company I began working for at 18.

I took the role of care coordinator and moving and handling trainer. In this role, I was responsible for organising the care for my district and I maintained the moving and handling training for the whole company.

During my time here I obtained my Level 5 in leadership and management in health and social care and my moving and handling train the trainer qualification including moving and handling risk assessment training. In 2017 I had my second child and chose not to return to my coordinating role. I have been working as a dental receptionist in a busy dental practice in Milnthorpe for the last three years. Although this is quite a different role from my previous jobs, I have really enjoyed helping the patients, dentists, and other practice staff to ensure care and appointments run as smoothly as possible.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my partner, Rob and our two children, Maisie, and Joseph. I also love baking. During the first lockdown, we had a baking day every week and baked various things such as cake, bread, and even hot cross buns. I enjoy walking with my family and have participated in two cross bay walks, both for charitable causes. I enjoy reading, crime and mystery books. I also enjoy watching various sports and documentaries on television, again crime documentaries are my favourite. Pre covid I attended a yoga class weekly and am looking forward to returning to face-to-face classes when this is possible.
