Home Instead Thurrock support my mother to a high standard. The carers have never let us down. They have built a very good bond with my mum, and have really got to know her very well. If I phone to ask how she is, they give me an account of how mums day has been.
Without this support my mum wouldn't
be able to live at home.

Excellent service from one staff in particular, very kind and patient with Mum, nothing too much trouble. Cooked meals as my mother does not like ready meals. Sat with her whilst she ate and cleaned away beautifully. Office staff very helpful and obliging.

I can only say it took two ladies that have been with my mum since the beginning that enabled me to pass the care of my mum over to them. I have complete trust and respect for these ladies as we are so lucky as they go above and beyond for Mum. They treat my mum with such respect and kindness and nothing
is too much. Mum is so happy and misses the ladies if they are not around. That says an awful lot, thank you so much.

I am so pleased we found Home Instead (Thurrock). They are in a whole different league from any carers we've had before (and I thought we'd had some of the best).
They give Mum time to chat and get to know them so that she regards them as friends. They get to know mum with her likes and dislikes and
they learn how to do things and say things to help mum engage and feel happy. They treat Mum with kindness and dignity and adapt what they do to suit her needs and wishes. They are so kind and hard-working and always lovely. I cannot fault them and don't know what we would do without them.

From the start of our enquiry, we felt comfortable and reassured about the care we were setting up. From the ladies who came out initially to the wonderful carer assigned to us. Our assigned carer was kind, punctual, friendly, respectful and gave exemplary care. The ladies in the office replied promptly
on the occasion when we had a couple of questions.

Very pleased with our carer nothing is too much trouble. We are treated like she is our daughter. Wouldn't want anyone else if she gave up a lovely person, very friendly.

The review starts from July 2022 to date. Home Instead was very responsive when I first needed help. Arranging care for my father was swift and we had carers within two weeks of initiation. The pairing of carer and client was good, they understood the needs and temperament of the client (and the client's
daughter) and a good match was found. The service provided is of very high quality. Cover is automatically arranged when carers are on holiday. I feel reassured that my father is being cared for properly. The app to read visit notes is brilliant as I am kept in the loop of problems and issues straight away.

I had such great comfort having the manager and his caregivers being so involved in caring for our dad aged 79, when unfortunately he was bed bound, and grieving after losing his wife of 60 years plus. The kindness, compassionate and caring way they showed Dad, with all aspects of caring for him, was
nothing short of amazing and they felt like part of the family. They came up with creative ideas to increase his appetite and were truly interested in spending time with him having a good chat, as well as doing all the other duties needed to care for Dad as well as being extremely professional. I would highly recommend Thurrock Home Instead. I felt like I had another pair of safe and caring hands on my side, which gave me personally comfort to know this totally, and it was very easy to speak to someone if needed.

Everyone at Home Instead Thurrock have been amazing right from the beginning when we needed to organise care for our 85 year old dad. They have been efficient and friendly throughout and take time to personalise all aspects of their service even including the needs for Dads little dog which are so important
to him. The caregivers become friends and accommodate anything to make life easier and more comfortable for Dad giving us as family some peace of mind when we can't be there. We do not hesitate in recommending them.

We initially reached out to Home Instead to help provide end of life care for my Grandad as we couldn't be with him 24 hours a day. From the first contact, we were treated with kindness, understanding, and respect. We had the pleasure of working with staff who both went above and beyond to help in any
way they could. Our working relationship was, unfortunately, a short one however I would strongly recommend them to anybody.

Home Instead is by far the best care agency Mum's had. Other agencies don't even come close. The caregivers know how to get the best out of Mum and go out of their way to make her happy and keep her safe. They tap into things that have significance from her past and are very skilled at helping her move
on from difficult situations.
They have changed Mum's life for the better and I can't thank them enough.

Our family has been delighted with the care afforded to our aunt who underwent a serious operation in March this year. I have been satisfied with the carers of this company. They have been attending to me since March 2021 when it was twice daily now reduced to two people at lunchtime twice a week. I have recommended them to a friend who has recently been discharged from hospital. I trust that they will be satisfied.

Dorcas Afful

Job Title: Owner/Manager

Hi, my name is Dorcas and together with my mum Gladys, we are the proud owners of Home Instead Thurrock. On the surface, I think I am like most young and modern women.


I have dreams and goals for the future that I am determined to make happen, and I will work hard to achieve these goals. What makes me special is perhaps my family background. I come from a family where most of them work in the health care industry and observing from an early age their passion for the care they deliver made it a very easy decision for me to pursue a career in health so I can be able to deliver that high quality to my clients.


Prior to my current role as a Diagnostic Radiographer in a busy NHS hospital, I worked as a caregiver for many years both in care homes and in the community and experienced first-hand the difference that compassionate care makes in the lives of clients and the effect it has on their independence. I passionately believe in the Home Instead mission and I’m excited to be a part of this organization.


My role includes overseeing the effective running of the business, building relationships with the local community and organizations and identifying ways in which Home Instead can be valuable to the community.


I am married with three children and outside of work, I spend most of my time doing family stuff, reading, going to the gym and volunteering in the community.

My name is Gladys and together with my daughter Dorcas am the owner of Home Instead Senior Care Thurrock. Having worked as a general nurse for the past 20 years looking after mostly the elderly, I realised the positive impact that quality, compassionate and person-centred care has in the recovery outcome of patients and therefore saw the need for them to continue to have the same quality of care when they discharged into their own homes. This motivated me to move into the home care industry.


I was attracted to Home Instead because of its values of relationship-led care which matches my own mission of how care should be delivered. My aim is to provide our clients with high-quality care and the very best support to enable them to remain independent in their homes for as long as possible.


In my spare time, I like to spend time with my family, involve myself in church activities and practice mindfulness.

My name is Jan and I decided to change careers after my mum passed away.


Something she always wanted was a carer who had time for her, would listen to her and chat with her, and that is exactly what Home Instead does I have since joined the company as a Coordinator/Care Professional.


I really enjoy my job as it is very diverse. My time is split from being in the office keeping our social media up to date, looking after the welfare of our Care Professionals, doing consultations with clients and also being a Care Professional myself.


A really lovely part of my job is going back to see clients I met at the consultation and seeing how our care has made a really big impact on their lives.


In my spare time, I like to read and walk my dog.
