My wife and I have had various care companies in the past with very mixed results, the companies always eventually letting us down. Helping Hands have been truly a breath of fresh air. Our trust in companies has been completely destroyed in the past but I can honestly say I now have 100% trust regained,
no mean feat and and absolute credit to The manager and the team she has put in. They are on a completely different level to other companies, through from management to care. My son is a very happy boy.

My 101-year-old mother has a lunchtime visit, Monday to Friday, to serve lunch and check she's ok. All carers are friendly, professional and willing to do any extra job that's needed. My mother looks forward to the daily visit as it gives her another face to see during the day. Helping Hands has been
a real pleasure to have coming to see her.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for Helping Hands Home Care (Sunderland) is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

    The 5 points available are broken down as follows: 3 points for the first Positive Review, 2 points in total for each of the next 9 Positive Reviews (1st = 3, 2nd = 0.5, 3rd = 0.5, 4th = 0.25, 5th = 0.25, 6th = 0.1, 7th = 0.1, 8th = 0.1, 9th = 0.1, 10th = 0.1)

The 5 points relating to the number of Positive Reviews for Helping Hands Home Care (Sunderland) is based on 2 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows: 3 + 0.5 = 3.5

Job Title: Branch Care Manager

About me

I have worked for Helping Hands since January 2021, when I joined as a care assistant. I loved my job providing care to people in their own homes and in July I received my first promotion to Care Coordinator, then at the end of 2021 I was awarded my second promotion to Branch Care Manager. Since becoming manager I have overseen my first CQC inspection where we received Good in all areas, and overseen the opening of our new branch. I love my role and I love this company; to me care is so much more than a job. I came to work for Helping Hands after my own son reached a point where he no longer lived with us at home. He has disabilities and has needed support throughout his life, and having been his unpaid carer I decided to use the understanding gained for his care as a foundation to build a career upon. I looked at many care providers, however I chose Helping Hands because of how the company feels about not only its customers, but also about the people who work here.

Experience and expertise

I haven't always been in the care industry - I left school and began my working life as a hairdresser, and from there I moved into the hospitality industry and worked for many years as a supervisor for Whitbread. However, when my son was born with several needs I left employment to become his unpaid carer. As well as my GCSEs that I gained many years ago, I have a FdSC in complementary health care.

Why I chose Helping Hands

I chose Helping Hands as I can honestly say I would be happy for them to look after not only my son, but also any member of my family!
