I have found the carers to be very helpful in looking after mum and dad who both have dementia. They bring structure and organisation into the day. Sometimes they arrive at the back end or outside the call slot and this can cause upset due to dementia sufferers looking for routine and timescales. I
know it can be difficult when travelling to multiple addresses in different areas and that they are working to try and resolve this issue. They also enable me to have some down time as it is sometimes exhausting when supporting two parents with varying degrees of dementia.

The carers were an enormous help and support to my husband and myself over the last 20 months. They were always kind, thoughtful, caring and great cooks too! I recommended them to a friend who is also very happy with their help.

The care is invaluable for me to remain at home. The staff keep me clean and make sure I am fed throughout the day. Staff prompt me to take my medication. Staff do all the things i can no longer manage myself. I am encouraged to continue to do all the hobbies and activities that I used to do with their
support and guidance.

For the past 2 years Helping Hands have supplied carers for my husband who has dementia. They are very caring, capable patient centered individuals who adapt themselves to the needs of my husband. I have complete confidence in them and I am happily able to go out or stay in. My husband cooks with them,
which he enjoys and we benefit greatly from the results. There have been a few changes in management which haven't really affected us. We have been very lucky to get such reliable excellent carers.

I am confident my Mum is receiving the best of care from Helping Hands Home Care. Although one of the more expensive care providers, it shows in the quality of staff. Flexibility for additional, temporary support is important to us and we have found Helping Hands to be very responsive.

Having struggled to find appropriate care for my father, the manager at Helping Hands went out of her way to find a suitable solution. It's early days but very impressed especially with the manager and her staff.

I have only been with this company for a few months, but feel very comfortable being well looked after and considered by the competent staff who look after me.
Above all I feel safe and that the company itself cares.

Job Title: Branch Care Manager

About me

I am the registered Manager responsible for the day-to-day running of the branch and everything in between. I meet with clients and look at what support is needed, tailoring their requirements specifically to meet their individual needs; ensuring the standards are maintained and met with regular reviews and contact. I practise the values of Helping Hands and lead my team to embody them in our delivery.

I ensure the recruitment and retention of staff with whom myself and my team show a regular presence and are easily accessible thus enabling us to support them every step of the way.

My mother worked in care and seeing how much she enjoyed her role and the satisfaction she got led me to follow in her footsteps.

I believe that Helping Hands truly care about not just the clients but the staff. The idea of ‘Kindness’ to our wonderful teams of carers as well as clients is one of my top priorities to maintain a happy working environment.
In my spare time, I walk my dogs, spend time with my family and enjoy time away at my caravan by the sea. I am also a qualified trampoline trainer.

Experience and expertise

I have worked within the care sector since I was 18, I worked for many local authorities as I was a forced wife and moved counties. I have worked in mental health, learning disabilities and domiciliary care at all levels with my expertise being with the elderly and providing quality services.

I joined care in 1986 when I was 18 years old and have been in this sector for 35 years.

Within the care sector, I have been a home help, support worker, carer, service organiser, team manager, and service manager this leading on to being a registered manager for an organisation in Derbyshire until I joined Helping Hands in April 2021to become a registered branch manager.

Why I chose Helping Hands

I chose Helping Hands whilst browsing the website and being struck by the featured comment ‘With a helping hand life is better at home', for their long-standing commitment to compassion and care which then shone through as I worked my way through the site. It felt like ‘Home’.

I am looking forward to delivering quality services in a timely fashion and a happy workforce within our sector where we are known with a reputation that shines above all.

I enjoy the ‘from the ground up’ challenge, I love meeting new people and being able to give comfort and tailoring the needs of the individual and ensuring that the staff are recognised, and I am able to say ‘Thank you in a way that means something to them.
