After using Home Instead for 8 months and with my mother in an "end of life" condition, Home Instead chose to abruptly withdraw their services without notice. We were told that this was due to the fact that we did not have an adjustable medical bed. Following a complaint, to the care manager, the following
day Home Instead indicated that service could be re-instated if we rented a medical bed and had two carers three times a day, instead of one three times per day at a cost 2.5xs what we had been paying to date. This included renting a medical bed. My mother passed two days later in the care of family members. We feel extremely disappointed with the manner in which Home Instead withdrew their services. The situation placed the family in an impossible position during, what was already a very stressful time. It is important to note that this was not the carers' fault who attended my mother but Home Instead's senior management.

I realise that this is a very difficult time for the family with the passing of your mother and there is a lot of emotion in the review. Whilst I am respectful of your feelings I also feel that I need to provide details that are missing. After a fall our carer advised us that your mum's mobility had changed. Our Care Manager carried out a Risk Assessment on the Moving & Handling and deemed that it was no longer safe to move your mum with 1 carer. We informed you we would require 2 carers and a hospital bed and we found a supplier and could get one the next day. We confirmed we could resume support the next day with the bed and with 2 carers. I do acknowledge that this doubled your cost and an additional cost for the hospital bed but we could not legally or safely support your mum without it. At this point, you cancelled the service due to excessive cost which I also understand. We did not abruptly withdraw our service we found a safe solution but at a cost that was not acceptable to the family.
