Having been a financial adviser for over 20 years and running a successful practice for the past 10 years, I wanted a change of direction. I found during my meetings with my clients that care and how they would be cared for in the future was an issue that concerned many, not just for themselves but also for their own parents and grandparents. This desire to help people fulfil their dreams and manage their concerns led me to the decision to start a care business.

I wanted to be part of a franchise to ensure I could tap into the years of experience in running a care business, so looked for a company with strong values that matched mine, and Guardian Angel Carers fit the bill.

Having returned from 15 years living in Australia, I was fortunate enough to secure a role as a Support Worker for Mencap. This has allowed me to realise my desire to provide a positive difference in the lives of those with care needs.

During my conversations with North Yorkshire residents, I found that a very real concern for many of the ageing community is the lack of professional, compassionate in-home care providers in the area.

When the opportunity arose to purchase a Guardian Angel Carer’s Franchise, covering York and the surrounding areas, I jumped at the chance. I have a background in business management and a passion for assisting people to live their best lives. When we looked into the ethos and ethics of Guardian Angel Carers, we knew wholeheartedly this was the Franchisor for us!

Having moved to Easingwold 12 years ago, I consider myself a local resident of this lively, bustling market town that has a strong focus on supporting all who live here.

Drawing on my years of experience working in social care, and running a domiciliary care business in the town, enabled me to develop positive partnerships with individuals and organisations towards a shared goal of well-being for all. In the past decade, I have invested in my own professional development to ensure I can train and support colleagues to be the best carers they can, be and to be carers who work with clients, putting them at the heart of all they do. Undertaking a master’s degree in Dementia Studies at the University of Hull is my current project and one that has enabled me to really explore the dementia journey for carers, clients and their loved ones.

I have seen, first-hand, an ever-growing need for more and more responsive, compassionate, client-centred care across our county. Naturally, I was thrilled to hear that Guardian Angel Carers, while based in Easingwold, has made the commitment to provide robust support services to an area extending widely from York to Thirsk and our rural communities beyond.

The values of the company and the vision of its owners, Debbie and AJ, reassure me that this new service is going to make a hugely beneficial difference to people, and I am excited to be part of it.

I chose to work in care because I wanted to make a difference for other people. I’ve always said you cannot teach someone to care, it is something that is either in you or it is not, I strongly believe everyone should be treated with the utmost respect in a person-centred way. I always treat people as I would want someone to treat me or a member of my family.

I wanted to be a carer because I’ve always loved to help people and believe everyone should have access to the best quality care that someone can offer. Being able to make a difference in someone’s day is really important to me; even just a simple smile and a kind word can do so much if someone’s having a bad day.

I believe the most important qualities in a carer are compassion, kindness and understanding.

I have cared for several members of my family over the past 10 years and wanted to take forward my experiences of that to provide excellent support for those needing it.

I have always been a caring and thoughtful person. I decided to change career following the 2019 pandemic. I have three years of experience as a care professional and I find the work enjoyable and rewarding.

I first became a carer so that I could help people. I soon fell in love with the job and love getting to know clients and doing my best to make their lives as joy-filled and easy as possible!

I am currently doing an integrated masters in social work & therefore I am eager to learn in a similar sector of health and social care. I have a passion and drive to make a positive difference to individuals lives around me.

I chose to become a carer because I like helping and caring for others. Caring for my Grandad helped me realise that this is what I wanted to do as a career.

I became a carer because I used to care for my mother when I was younger so I grew up trying to help people so took that through to my adult life too

I enjoy knowing I have helped someone in their day-to-day lives.

I love to take care of older people, it brings me joy. Moreover, it is my passion in life.

Nicola lives in France and flies over to the UK to provide live-in care to our clients. Whether that be a few weeks to assist with convalescence or long-term care as a comforting alternative to moving into a care home.

I enjoy knowing I have helped someone in their day-to-day life as it makes me feel warm. It is something I consider will be my career going forward.

I like to feel that I have done something useful and helped those in my community.
