The charity Leonard Cheshire Disability has appointed Hugo Middlemas as Director of Fundraising. He will replace Steve Cheshire who has worked as Interim Director of Fundraising since December 2010.
Hugo will have management responsibility for a team of fundraisers who will take forward an ambitious programme of increasing voluntary income for the charity that will enable it to continue its vital work with disabled people across the UK and abroad.
Hugo brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position, having previously worked as Director of Fundraising for two high profile organisations; Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity and the Parkinson’s Disease Society (now Parkinson’s UK).
During his two years at the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity, Hugo established a successful fundraising campaign, which aimed to bring in donations from individuals and their families who had benefited from the excellent care and treatment the hospitals provide. Hugo also has an impressive track record of major gift fundraising, as well as developing commercial and corporate partnerships.
Hugo, who took up his new role on 3 May, said: “Fundraising is crucial for many charities. At Leonard Cheshire Disability much-needed funds help to provide high quality services and innovative projects that enable disabled people to lead fuller lives whether through employment, education, music, sports or in other ways.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading national charity at an exciting time in its development.”
Clare Pelham, Chief Executive of Leonard Cheshire Disability, said: “I am delighted to welcome Hugo to our charity. His extensive experience, skills and expertise will be vital in helping us to develop the depth and breadth of our fundraising work. He has already been warmly received by trustees and staff."
Leonard Cheshire Disability is one of the UK’s largest voluntary sector providers of services to disabled people. The charity is also an active campaigner in partnership with disabled people.
