Shaw Community Living, which provides home care, extra care and supported living, has been awarded the Investors in People (IiP) accreditation for its commitment to staff training and development.
The accreditation covers around 350 staff working in community care across six locations in Wales, the West Midlands and the North West.
The report singled out Shaw staff for their passion and the value they place in their work, as well as its management processes which make it an ‘employer of choice for people interested in making a career in care.’
Jon Pain, operations director at Shaw healthcare, called the accreditation “fantastic news” and said it “is a credit to all staff who work so hard in communities to help deliver very bespoke, personalised and specialist levels of care”.
He added: “Fostering good practice is of paramount importance to us, and we have our own training and development department which seeks to put procedures in place to ensure staff are highly motivated in their roles and provide them with all the tools they need to deliver the best possible care to service users.”
In the report, the IiP assessor said ‘Shaw Community Living exemplifies the good practice that is expected of an Investor in People. The culture is reflective and inclusive and both of these qualities lead to a continuous drive for improvement, whether this be from measurement and evaluation, external feedback, listening to staff, identifying good practice and building on it, or from being innovative.'
‘Achieving the Standard represents the true commitment Shaw Community Living have towards their employees and demonstrates that they have a solid foundation of good practice.’
The group was also praised for its Shaw Star Awards, an internal national award scheme recognising high levels of care amongst all of its 4,600 staff that work across the entire Shaw healthcare Group.
Shaw Community Living is part of Shaw Community Living, which is run as a partnership, with 70 per cent of the business owned by employees and 30 per cent owned by The Shaw Foundation, a grant making charity.
Several individual care homes within the Shaw Group already hold IiP accreditation, however this looked specifically at its community care teams.
