Popular ex dragon Hilary Devey from the BBC’s series Dragons Den took part in the quiz show Million Pound Drop live and won big for charity the Carers Trust last Saturday evening.
Ms Devey, who is Carers Trust Vice president, has been an active supporter of the charity for many years and took part in the celebrity version of the hit TV show with radio presenter Greg James in order to raise money for their chosen charities.
The duo took home £50,000 after their initial prize pot on one million pound slipped from their grasp in a series of challenging rounds led by channel four presenter Davina McCall.
Tweeting after the event, Ms Devey said: “What a cliff-hanger @the1mpounddrop was on Saturday night and I am so glad we raised money for our charities xxx”
Mr James kept the audience on the edge of their seats after losing £800,000 in the first round which found the radio 1 DJ’s music knowledge put to the test.
However Mr James and Ms Devey completed the seventh round with £25,000 which they successfully doubled to £50,000 in the ‘final drop’ round.
As well as the Carers Trust, the celebrity duo donated their winnings to charities. The Stroke Association and The Lord Tarverners.
Anil Ranchod, assistant director of external affairs at the Stroke Association said;
“We were thrilled to see Greg James and Hilary Devey pair up to take on the Million Pound Drop. They were great sports and they are both tireless ambassadors for the charity. The Stroke Association relies heavily on the generosity of our supporters. Their win will ensure the Stroke Association can continue its work to support stroke survivors and their families.”
