A Blackburn based home care provider is offering people who are uneasy about the prospect of receiving home help a new flexible approach to home care.

The ‘Weekly Care Check’ service can be used as a testing ground for those who want to find out if having a home carer is the right care option for them.

The service, created by Choice Care, works with both family members and the individual themselves in order to deliver an appropriate level of wellbeing checks.

Andrew Key, director of Choice Care said: “The cost of homecare can be prohibitive for a lot of families, with the criteria for social services funding becoming stricter; it leaves many families feeling that they have no options.”

“Society is much more fragmented these days with many of our loved ones dispersed across the country, often the children of our elderly service users are living in other counties, or abroad. With work pressures and family commitments, it is not an easy or viable option financially for them to move closer to care for an elderly relative.”

Choice Care is offering the affordable and flexible service in order to support families with older relatives with low level needs who do not currently require the extensive care that is provided by home carers.

Points of concern which the ‘Weekly Care Check’ can monitor include personal hygiene, eating habits, safety at home, or general mood.

The service can cover a variety of worrying times for family members, from family going on holiday to a period of recovery from hospital.

The visits can range from one hour a week, to daily visits and can be turned on and off at family members requests.

Mr Key said: “We are a business with a heart and want to be here to help our local communities, and see a thriving community in which our elderly are a part of. In some cases they become secluded or isolated especially if their family are not close by.

“If we can support those who are unable to get funding, just a little while a week for a cuppa and a chat, it can make a big difference in their lives.”
