Carers Trust is working with legal firm WSL to educate people about preparing a Will or Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) after it has claimed that 70 per cent of people who died last year failed to protect their assets.
Without a Will it is left to the Government to decide how a person’s estate is divided after they die, following strict laws of intestacy.
The legal firm are providing a month of advice from guest expert Polly Banwell, who will be answering questions from carers on the topic as part of an online forum.
She said: "WSL is delighted to offer a special discount to carers on the price of their home visit service. Preparing a Will or LPA may seem like a daunting task, especially if, as a carer, your thoughts and time are taken up with other priorities. However, they are the only way you can be sure that your assets are protected and your wishes known.
“WSL’s home visit service is designed to be as convenient as possible. Our legal consultants will explain everything to you in detail and guide you through the entire process. Once they have taken your instructions your documents are drafted and sent for your approval.”
Carers Enterprises, part of Carers Trust, is working with WSL to offer carers a Will writing and LPA service which will ensure that carers can receive legal consultation on how to secure the future of their assets.
As well as professional advice, the legal firm are offering guidance throughout their service which has been designed to be straightforward and accessible to people in their own home.
Setting up a LPA can be crucial for people receiving care in their own homes because it ensures that they are protected if they become unable to continue making decisions due to mental illness.
Making an LPA allows a trusted person to have the ability to make important choices on behalf of their loved one who has lost mental capacity.
A discount is being offered on home services for carers who decide to use WSL to write their Will or set up an LPA.
