Care UK has been selected as Doncaster Council’s partner to run a learning disability service which supports adults in more than 40 houses across Doncaster.

The service’s current 245 employees have transferred from the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) to Care UK and a further 34 new jobs have been created to fill gaps in the service.

Care UK has pledged to continue creating permanent jobs and committed to build on the work established by RDaSH, whilst modernising the support received by the service’s 130 users.

Business development director Libby Eastley at Care UK said: “Care UK has a lot of experience of providing support for adults with learning disabilities. Many years ago, we adopted a person-centred approach to our service which means that we make every effort to involve service users in deciding how their support is delivered and identifying goals that they would like to achieve.

“Our approach is to do things with people rather than for them which brings all sorts of rewards and, in many cases, greater independence as people learn new skills which can be anything from shopping for food to gaining employment. We have already received very positive feedback from people who receive our service in Doncaster and from the team who continue to support them.”

With an initial contract for three years, the arrangement will continue for a further two years if it is successful.

There are three other residential services in the Doncaster area run by Care UK, as well as 18 residential houses operated by the independent care provider for people with learning disabilities throughout the UK.
