A home care agency will be recruiting 75 new staff members to meet growing demand for home care services in 2014.

Based in Telford, Carewatch Mid Shropshire will increase its care provision for older people and people with disabilities by employing up to 150 people throughout the year.

Managing director, Steve Harris said: “We have been going for just over 14 years and the way the company has developed in that time has been remarkable.

“We have been very busy and have constantly expanded the range of services we offer including 24-hour care, adult care, care for children, live-in carers, personal care and risk assessments in the home, we’re now also moving into corporate support services.”

Carewatch Mid Shropshire champions its own policy of promoting from within the company to encourage young carers to progress into care management roles. It has also taken steps to ensure no member of staff gets paid below the living wage.

Mr Harris said: “Last year we really focussed on perfecting what we do and how we deliver services to clients, this has resulted in an increasing demand for new good quality staff.”

Last year the agency invested in recruitment tools, including psychometric testing, to ensure new staff members have the qualities needed to carry out a role as a home carer.

Mr Harris said the need for carers will increase over the next 20 years as the ageing population grows and more people need to start paying for their own care.

He continued: “The social care system will need to keep up with changes in this demography.

“Because of this and last years’ investment, we are now ready to expand - but it has come quicker than we thought.

“We need to take more people on simply to meet the demand.”

New jobs will be created for carers, support staff and administration staff as well as specialist roles.
