Home care worker David Telfer has been named care worker of the year by Bluebird Care (Maidstone & Tonbridge) in his first year of working in healthcare.

Mr Telfer, who works as a live-in carer, was awarded the achievement after showing his dedication and excellence to providing quality support, and was recommended for the award by his service user’s family.

The award was presented by Maidstone’s mayor Richard Thick on 14 January 2015 during a celebratory afternoon tea organized by Bluebird Care (Maidstone and Tonbridge) which has provided home care service in the community for the last five years.

On receiving the award, Mr Telfer, said: “I love my job, and it hasn’t really sunk in yet that I have been awarded this award. I give my role 100 per cent commitment and enjoy it greatly. The family are wonderful and make me feel very welcome.”

Writing their nomination for Mr Telfer, one customer said: “I am really pleased that David has been nominated. David really deserves it and we do not know what we would do without him. David has an excellent relationship with my father and I always know he is well looked after.”

Despite having only completed one year as a care worker, his employers have described him as a valued member of the team who regularly goes above and beyond what is expected of him and has been able to form an excellent relationship with his customer.

Bluebird Care provides a range of home care options for people over 18 years old to support them to lead fulfilling and independent lives in their own home. Support provided includes personal care, companionship, assistance with medication and carrying out domestic tasks around the home.
