Tributes paid to 'selfless' care worker who died travelling to work in the snow

A fundraising page has been set up in memory of a 'popular' care worker who was found dead in the snow on her way to work.

Elaine McNeill, aged 42, fell ill en route to her work for , which are believed to have tracked her location using a phone app after growing concerned for her welfare.

The mother-of-two was found in the snow on Kippen Street, Glasgow, on Wednesday morning. Her death is not believed to be related to the recent weather storm referred to as the 'beast from the east'.

Colleagues have described Ms McNeill, who had 15 years of home care experience, as a "lovely, caring and selfless person," who "always put others before herself."

It is hoped the go fund me page set up in her memory will raise £5,000 for her family. So far, the page has raised over £3,000.

One fundraiser commented: "Elaine had been my mum's home carer for a few years now. Elaine was a very caring, thoughtful and lovely person. Nothing was a bother to her. My mum loved it when she saw Elaine and I got to know her really well through attending to my mum.

"I have been very upset to hear that Elaine has tragically died. She will be sorely missed."

Cordia, Scotland's largest provider of home care services, paid tribute to Ms McNeill and reinforced they were working with the authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

A spokesman for the company said: "We are shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Cordia employee, Elaine McNeill in the Milton area of Glasgow.

"Elaine worked with Cordia for 15 years as a popular and valued member of our home care team.

"We don’t have any further details about the circumstances of the incident but will be working with the authorities.

"Our thoughts are with her family at this time."
