The home care provider of an assisted living community has been awarded an ‘outstanding’ by the CQC in its latest inspection, with staff benefitting from the setting's "high retention of staff' and the formation of "solid relationships" with people living across the 27 homes.

The domiciliary care division of Hertford-based Broad Oak Manor was awarded the care watchdog’s highest rating after an inspection at the end of May 2019.

CQC head of inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region, Lo-Anne Lewis, said: “Our inspection team was very impressed by the level of care and support offered by Broad Oak Manor.

“The service assessed new residents thoroughly and ensures staff have specialised training to meet individual needs and it encourages residents under their care to participate in meaningful activities such as knitting poppies for Remembrance Day, taking part in the gardening club and attending an Oscar-themed evening complete with red carpet.”

Broad Oak Manor offers 29 luxury assisted living houses and apartments available for lease, plus a nursing home which is currently CQC rated as ‘good’. The domiciliary care at Broad Oak Manor supports people living with dementia and physical disabilities, as well as older people and those with sensory impairments in their own homes.

Sharon Cruickshank, who manages the Broad Oak Manor domiciliary care, said: “One resident was a teacher, and they missed contact with young people.”

“So, we arranged for children from a local school to visit and discuss life during the Second World War. Interactions like these benefits residents in a multitude of ways, and these activities helped to give people a purpose in life.”

Lance Adams, a managing partner at Broad Oak Manor said: “Care at Broad Oak Manor is individually tailored and centred around community, independence and improvement.”

“As a leadership team we continually invest in our people and approach to care. And by hiring the right people to deliver the right care in a personal and professional manner, we’re not only developing a reputation for outstanding delivery but for a service with heart and personality.”
