A new homecare service is hoping to help tackle the local social care crisis by keeping its clients healthy, happy and active. Westmorland Homecare offers companionship, personal care, home help and dementia care to those wish to live at home but need assistance. Founded by Dr Joshua Macaulay, Dr Christopher Moss and Director Russell Crossley the trio want to 'do things differently'. Dr Macaulay said: “With a rapidly growing and ageing population many people are struggling to find good quality care at home. Whilst working at Blackpool Victoria Infirmary I saw the elderly in our community being trapped in hospital. I will never forget a lady I cared for in hospital who was ready to go home but caught an infection whilst waiting for a care package and tragically died before she could get back. We knew something had to be done. The gold standard of care is to keep people out of hospital in the first place and when they are admitted, to get them back home as soon as they are ready." Social care is now at crisis point with Age UK publishing that in a single year, nearly one million hospital bed days were lost (954,799) due to an inability to access social care, with an excess cost of £173 million excluding equipment and adaptations. The company has taken over and renovated the old HSBC bank in Poulton’s historical Marketplace to provide service to clients in Blackpool, Poulton, Fylde, Wyre but hopes to expand further afield to Lytham and Garstang in the future And the company is set to create jobs for 100 care staff over its first 12 months as well as ten further office staff. Anybody interested in employment or help at home from Westmorland Homecare can contact the team directly on 01253 978891, email poulton@westmorlandhomecare.co.uk or visit their Website at www.westmorlandhomecare.co.uk for more information. The company aims to provide a high-quality alternative to traditional home care and specialises in providing the highest quality service from regular staff to give continuity. This will bring a much-needed service to many of the older people in need in our communities who are struggling to maintain their independence at home.

Dr Moss said:

“We want to keep people happy, healthy and active in their own homes so they don’t need to go to hospital or a nursing home and they can live their lives to the full no matter what age they are. At Westmorland Homecare we do things differently and we have had wonderful feedback so far.”

The service has also been rated outstanding in every area by the industry regulators the Care Quality Commission. The CQC inspect and rate all hospitals, dentists, GP and care services in the UK. Outstanding is the highest rating a service can achieve. There are approximately 16,500 homecare services registered in the UK and only 14 have been rated outstanding in all areas.
