The director and staff of Carefound Home Care of Wilmslow have been praised by Esther McVey MP in Westminster for supporting people living with dementia during coronavirus.

The team at Carefound Home Care (Wilmslow) were delighted to be appreciated for their efforts in supporting elderly people to live safely in their own homes during the pandemic.

Ms McVey, MP for Tatton, referenced the director and staff at a committee meeting last week in Parliament talking about how they have “adapted” to the situation throughout the crisis.

Ms McVey said: “I know that in Tatton and across the country care workers, family members and helpers have worked tirelessly, and I put on record my thanks and appreciation to all those people.

“Oliver Stirk, director of Carefound Home Care in Wilmslow, told me that their carers have adapted to the situation.

"Their patients are no longer now allowed to go to the pub to have a Sunday lunch, so his carers are cooking for them at home, so they can have some kind of enjoyment. They have also done much to support the families to get online.”

’It’s great to see their efforts referenced in Westminster’

The Tatton MP was in Westminster Hall and spoke about the experiences of some of her constituents and the effect COVID-19 had on people affected by dementia.

There are currently more than 812 people over 65 with a registered dementia diagnosis from their GP in Tatton.

Oliver Stirk, managing director of Carefound Home Care, said: “We’re very proud of the care and support our home care team provide in Tatton and it’s great to see their efforts referenced in Westminster.”

Their care workers carry out induction training which includes specialist training such as medication management, dementia care and Alzheimer’s care through their collaboration with the Contented Dementia Trust.

The care workers are specialised in Specialised Early Care for Alzheimer's (SPECAL). This is a unique method of caring for a person with dementia. The main aim of SPECAL care is to keep someone with dementia feeling calm and contented.

Mr Stirk added: “The COVID-19 pandemic has presented enormous challenges for families affected by dementia and we have seen some amazing examples of our carers going above and beyond and putting the specialist approach to dementia care we use into practice - the SPECAL method.”
