Gladys Ofori and Dorcas Afful are the new franchise owners of Home Instead Thurrock in South Essex, which will create 50 new jobs in Essex.

Gladys Ofori is a registered nurse who has worked in hospital A&E departments, nursing homes and community rehabilitation.

While working in hospitals, she witnessed the post-operation care provided to Home Instead clients which helped them transition back to their normal lives.

Gladys Ofori said: “Having worked as a general nurse for the past 20 years looking after mostly the elderly, I realised the positive impact that quality, compassionate and person- centered care have in the recovery outcome of patients and therefore saw the need for them to continue to have the same quality of care when they discharged into their own homes.

“This motivated me to move into the home care industry."

Dorcas Afful began working in a nursing home before becoming a domiciliary care worker. After studying at university, she worked at Basildon Hospital as a diagnostic radiographer, but realised she wanted a career in care.

Dorcas Afful said: “On the surface, I think I am like most young and modern women. I have dreams and goals for the future that I am determined to make happen.

“I come from a family where most of them work in the health care industry and observing from an early age their passion for the care they deliver made it a very easy decision for me to pursue a career in health so I can be able to deliver that high quality to my clients.”

Gladys Ofori and Dorcas Afful are creating 50 new caregiver jobs throughout Grays, Fobbing, Corringham and the neighbouring areas of South Essex.

Ms Afful said: "We are also really proud to be able to offer jobs to local people. Caregivers don’t need to have a background in care, but kind-hearted and nurturing individuals could thrive in the role, full and on-going training is provided. It really is so rewarding; mum and I know.

“I worked as a caregiver for many years both in care homes and in the community and experienced first-hand the difference that compassionate care makes in the lives of clients and the effect it has on their independence.”
