Forget Spiderman, Batman and the other comic book caped crusaders, a nine year-old believes her care worker mum is the new Wonder Woman and decided to dress up in her uniform - complete with PPE - for her school's ‘Superhero Day’.
When Ellen Kelly’s teacher told her class to come to school dressed as their favourite superhero, the nine-year-old did not hesitate to consider who her hero was.
The schoolgirl is the daughter of Bluebird Care Bristol, Bath & NE Somerset care assistant Sam Kelly who has been working in frontline care over the last year helping keep people safe from the deadly global coronavirus throughout the pandemic.
Ellen said: “Mummy is a key worker, she’s my hero! She saves people and she is a hero. So, she’s MY SUPERHERO.”
I’m just doing my job’
With many care workers spending a lot of time away from their families and young children during the pandemic, home care worker Sam Kelly was overwhelmed by her daughter's gesture.
Ellen’s mum Sam Kelly said: “I was so happy and proud to see Ellen dressed in a Bluebird Care uniform, she looked amazing."
To help realise the little girl’s dream, the home care worker’s boss Bluebird Care Bristol, Bath & NE Somerset gave Ellen a mini Bluebird Care uniform and some PPE so she could look as authentic as possible.
Sam Kelly added: “Thank you to Bluebird Care Bristol, Bath & NE Somerset for providing Ellen with the mini uniform.
“I am so pleased she sees me as a hero – to me, I am just doing my job caring for others.”
