The BHF turns 60 on 28 July and to help mark the occasion, the charity is being supported by eleven big brands including Auto Trader, Mindful Chef and musicMagpie, with a commitment to help raise over £375,000 in total so the charity can continue to fund lifesaving research for the 7.6 million people in the UK living with heart and circulatory diseases.

Helping Hands Home Care, based in Alcester Warwickshire, has committed to raising £60,000 throughout July with fundraising activities from each of their 140 branches such as staff sporting challenges and the BHF’s famous Dechox chocolate challenge.

Karyn MacKenzie, group managing director at Helping Hands Home Care, said: “We at Helping Hands have always been inspired by the fantastic work of the British Heart Foundation. With the impact that COVID-19 has had on the charity sector, we felt it was imperative to show our support to charities like the British Heart Foundation so that they can continue with their life-saving research.

“We support thousands of customers across England and Wales who have been affected by the devastating heart and circulatory conditions that the British Heart Foundation work so hard to beat, so we are incredibly proud to be supporting them in their mission to beat heartbreak forever.”

’The Covid-19 pandemic cut last year’s funding for new research in half’

When the BHF was founded in 1961 seven out of 10 heart attacks were fatal. Now, at least seven out of 10 people survive. In the 60s, eight out of 10 babies born with a congenital heart condition died before their first birthday. Thanks to BHF research, eight out of 10 babies survive to adulthood.

Paul Davies, head of corporate partnerships at the BHF said: “The number of companies wanting to support us in such a significant way to mark the British Heart Foundation’s 60th birthday is quite overwhelming. We’re grateful to every single one of these brands for their pledges to help us fundraise during such a critical time.

“The BHF has achieved so much over the past 60 years and funded groundbreaking discoveries including the first UK heart transplant and genetic testing for inherited heart conditions. But we’re not ready to stop yet as heart and circulatory diseases still kill one in four in the UK.

“The Covid-19 pandemic cut last year’s funding for new research in half so support like this is invaluable and we would like to thank each of the companies, their employees and customers for being part of Team 60.”
