The award was established to pay tribute to the commitment and drive shown by business leaders during COVID-19 and the judges recognised the lengths Ms Laughland and her 300-strong staff went to, increasing critical care services and providing front-line support to 700 service users.

As a result, the company increased its workforce by more than 20 per cent and earlier this year, HRM Homecare Services Ltd won a technology and people award at the Scottish Care Awards.

Ms Laughland said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been named IoD Scotland’s agility and resilience director of the year, and especially honoured to be its first ever recipient.

"At HRM Homecare we work very hard to be the best at what we do, so to receive such leadership recognition is humbling.

“This reward is a tribute to the sterling efforts of my staff. We have remained steadfast in our determination to continue to help people who need our care most throughout COVID-19 and that will never waver.

“Working in care at home is highly challenging, but it is also highly rewarding, especially knowing that make a real difference to people’s lives.”

Ms Laughland who founded HRM Homecare Services in 1994 was also a finalist in director of the year – small-media business, and regional director finalist for Glasgow and West of Scotland.

Headquartered in Kilmarnock, with further offices in Coatbridge, Glasgow and Edinburgh, Ms Laughland has grown the company to provide home support to vulnerable people across Scotland’s central belt.

Theresa Shearer, chair of the judging panel at IoD, said: “There was merit in every single one of the entries for these awards and the judges reflected long and hard over the shortlist. What has shone through are directors’ resilience and entrepreneurship in the face of the extraordinary challenges we have been experiencing.

“IoD Scotland is excited by the energy and innovation of young directors and those leading established organisations. IoD Scotland is all about good directorship and this shortlist has shining examples.”
