British home care company Cera is making its first ever international expansion into Germany by offering care and nursing services in the homes of people living in Berlin and Potsdam.
Keen to tackle social care with AI, Cera is expanding its operations 'to internationalise' its mission to help people live longer, healthier and better lives in their own homes with the help of its advanced technology.
A team of 50 staff are currently working in the two German cities with its AI-powered app.
The app helps its care workers and nurses monitor people’s vital signs, activity levels, nutrition etc and detect health deteriorations up to 30 times faster than traditional methods, reducing hospitalisations by up to 45 per cent among older people.
Cera’s chief executive Dr Ben Maruthappu said the international expansion “is the first of many” on Cera’s horizon following “100-fold growth" over the past two years in reaction to increased demand due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr Ben Maruthappu said: “We’ve experienced rapid growth in the UK since our inception, and in particular over the past two years as we’ve looked to bolster our operations and support our UK communities through the pandemic.
“As a result of Covid-19, we’ve seen a significant acceleration in the demand for healthcare services to be delivered at home, rather than in hospitals, and we’re uniquely placed to use our technology to address this need.
"We’re incredibly excited to be increasing our footprint further afield into Germany, and we see this as the ideal springboard for continued internationalisation throughout Europe and beyond in due course.”
Launched in 2016, Cera carries out around 40,000 in-person home care visits a day. Cera’s AI app monitors people’s vital signs, activity levels, sleeping patterns and nutrition and then advises their care worker or nurse on the best course of medical action.
Niklas Bruns and Falk Dietze, at Cera in Germany, said: “We are honoured to be part of the Cera family, and the first to take the Cera name beyond international borders.
“We look forward to working in partnership with the team in the UK and growing our German footprint to continue in Cera’s mission to help elderly and vulnerable communities to live longer and better lives from the comfort of their own homes by using technology.”
