Most home care workers (83 per cent) have admitted feeling more pressure since the Covid-19 pandemic, with 47 per cent stating they felt a greater emotional responsibility to their clients.

With the pandemic highlighting the work care workers do, 65 per cent also said they felt more valued over the last two years. The poll showed that technology has helped care staff with 75 per cent of staff using it to deliver better care.

The majority (62 per cent) of home care agencies use technology to help support care staff.

“On top of existing pressures that healthcare professionals have dealt with over the past couple of years, carers have had to take on greater emotional responsibility too, particularly during the pandemic”, said Josh Hough, managing director of CareLineLive.

Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid has a target to roll out electronic records to 80 per cent of adult social care providers by March 2024.

Mr Hough believes home care agencies should use digital care management systems to make care workers’ jobs easier and help the sector retain staff. “The importance of tech in enabling carers to deliver better client care while at the same time helping them to manage their work with less stress is crucial”, Mr Hough added.
