Home care provider Abicare is offering free training and 100 jobs for refugees from Ukraine and elsewhere in the world who want to live in the UK.
One hundred home care jobs for refugees are being offered in Swindon, Salisbury, Basingstoke, Bradford-on-Avon and Wales, while live-in care jobs are also available across the country.
Refugees do not need previous care experience and Abicare will pay for training, shadowing for successful placements and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
'Angered by the Russian invasion'
Abicare provides home care staff across England and Wales and is now working with local authorities to find accommodation for the refugees who apply for the jobs. Refugees recruited for live-in care jobs will stay at the home care client’s house during their rota period.
The home care provider's decision follows Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to invade Ukraine last February - forcing millions of Ukrainians to flee violence in their country and become refugees.
“We’ve all been deeply saddened and angered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the suffering it has unleashed on the Ukrainian people”, said Anne Marie-Perry, managing director at Abicare.
“We want to wish a very warm welcome to any Ukrainians or refugees from around the world looking to make the UK their home and rebuild their lives. I hope they can find some peace and happiness here.
'Building a new life in a new country is never easy'
“Building a new life in a new country is never easy and at Abicare we want to play our part to help. For some, a career in care could provide the flexibility and stability to help them find their feet and that’s why we’re proud to open up training and job opportunities specifically for these people.
"We’d urge anyone who thinks this might be of interest or knows someone who might benefit from these opportunities to get in touch.”
Interested job applicants must have:
- The right to work in the UK (this is automatically covered with refugee status)
- A proficiency in written and spoken English
- A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (paid for by Abicare)
