Bluebird Care Winchester, Eastleigh & Romsey was first awarded the five-star CQC rating in 2018 and has now achieved the accolade again, after continuing to impress the inspectors in their recent inspection.

Norman Murphy, managing director of Bluebird Care Winchester, Eastleigh & Romsey said: “We set out to achieve the holy grail of a five-star outstanding CQC rating, so to obtain this for a second time is an incredible accomplishment and testament to both our staff and our commitment to provide only the highest quality care.

“The timing really couldn’t be sweeter by coinciding with our 10th birthday!”

'The provider sought to provide people with care from a continuous care team'

In the CQC report, the inspectors praised the leadership and management. ‘Staff told us they felt highly valued and well supported by the provider and their colleagues. One member of staff said, “I do not feel like a cog in the wheel, but a member of a big family.”

Within the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic, the provider had worked hard to keep people and staff connected to the service and their local community. One person told us, "I get regular calls from the office to check I am alright and don't need anything."

Records showed when restrictions had allowed this, team building days and events, including fundraising for local charities, had been arranged.

Bluebird Care Winchester, Eastleigh & Romsey are one of just three care providers in the country to have been awarded two consecutive five-star ratings by the CQC and are the only care company in Hampshire to achieve this double-accolade.

'It’s heart-warming'

The report also illustrated how using the same care worker is important to the client. It states: ‘Wherever possible, the provider sought to provide people with care from a continuous care team. One member of staff told us, "I have a good rapport with a customer who has severe epilepsy I can often recognise when a seizure is about to start, which gives us a few seconds of time to ensure [they are] safe."

‘People spoke extremely positively about their care, telling us they received support as planned from consistent staff who were exceptionally caring and supportive. One person told us, "They come at 7 am each day like clockwork. I have a group of about four girls who share my visits and I always know who is coming."

‘A relative told us, "Quality of care staff is excellent and the strong caring nature of staff is clearly evident".

The Mayor of Winchester also joined Bluebird Care Winchester, Eastleigh & Romsey owners, staff, customers, and other local healthcare professionals as they toasted to the care provider’s continued success.

Mayor of Winchester, Vivian Achwal, said: “It was a pleasure to spend the day seeing first-hand the immense dedication that the Bluebird Care team have. With social care now such a vital part of our society, it’s heart-warming to see such an intense commitment to outstanding quality.”
