Corinium Care’s Esther praised for superb palliative/End of life care

Making a decision on care provision for a loved one can be difficult at the best of times, but when it comes to palliative or end of life care, the additional emotion and often urgency, makes it more challenging.

Ms G found herself in this position and for her, it was so important that her mother received the care she needed in the comfort of her own home, with dignity and from someone that could understand the hesitations she and the rest of her family had.

A call was made to Corinium Care requesting a live-in carer urgently with specific palliative care experience. Within a day, Mrs G was welcoming Esther into her Mum’s home. Esther came as an experienced carer particularly in this area and so she completely understood the family’s worries from day one.

Mrs G was delighted the difference Esther’s care quickly made, “Mum had proper personal care within a day and for the first time in 3 years – we began to see her wearing different clothes than the same ones she always wore – because they were easy for her to put on.”

“Suddenly Mum looked fresh and bright, and Esther left her to put on her makeup and jewellery so when she came downstairs, she almost looked like our mum used to.”

Esther always fed Mrs J breakfast first, but often she wasn’t very fussed about eating anything else so Esther would always ensure that she made lunch and dinner look appetising and would cater for her tastes. She also ensured Mrs J always had water or juice and a small plate with either little crackers or grapes or satsuma slices in front of her all day - so if she wanted to pick at anything it was there ready for her. Mrs J’s daughters were very thankful that Esther looked after their Mum so well, truly providing outstanding care. “She treated mum with so much kindness and respect and there was plenty of laughter. She was a joy to have around.”

It is important to Ester that her clients feel comfortable and that the environment they are in is clean and so every day, she would ensure that the kitchen was cleaned, Mrs J’s clothes were washed and ironed, and every evening Esther would fluff up the cushions in the lounge along with cleaning it. Mrs G one of the daughters said “The place looked and smelt clean all the time – It’s wonderful! Mum’s bed was made every day and changed regularly, and the bathroom and toilet were kept very, very clean.”

It made a big difference to the family at what was a truly difficult time.
